Notably, this was Mr. Dinh’s first sea trip as a boat owner after investing in a 15m-long vessel to fish for tuna. Previously, he had been on other boats. He shared his joy at rescuing the “messenger of the ocean” sea turtle and believed that this good news would bring him luck and success in his upcoming journey at sea.

According to the Gia Lai Province Fisheries Department, activities to protect rare aquatic species, especially sea turtles, have been strongly implemented for many years. From 2016 to present, fishermen in the province have proactively reported and participated in rescuing and safely releasing 46 sea turtles (including 24 hawksbill turtles, 14 green turtles, and 8 green turtles) back to the sea, while successfully protecting 13 sea turtle nests, contributing to bringing 663 baby turtles back to the ocean.
In the first 7 months of 2025 alone, fishermen in localities such as Quy Nhon Dong ward, Nhon Chau island commune, Cat Tien commune, De Gi commune, Hoai Nhon ward and Hoai Nhon Bac ward rescued 13 sea turtles (2 hawksbill turtles, 5 green turtles, 6 green turtles). The Department of Fisheries has proposed the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province to promptly reward 5 outstanding fishermen for their achievements in the conservation of sea turtles - an endangered and rare animal species of Vietnam.
According to the Department of Fisheries, the green turtle (also known as the turtle or du by fishermen) is one of five rare sea turtle species in Vietnam classified as "endangered" according to the classification of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); Appendix I of the CITES Convention (international trade and transport are prohibited).
