Since the beginning of 2026, infectious diseases have continued to be complex. According to the latest statistics from the health sector, from the beginning of the year until now, the province has recorded 123 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (an increase of 80 cases); 49 cases of conjunctivitis caused by the Adeno virus (an increase of 31 cases); 10 cases of COVID-19 and other diseases such as measles, influenza, diarrhea… continue to appear sporadically in various areas of the province.
This reality shows that old pathogens persist in the community and are always waiting to erupt when favorable weather conditions arise. Faced with the risk of increased disease outbreaks, the Department of Health has proactively advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue plans for disease prevention and control.
Mr. Phan Lac Hoai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: Along with advisory work, the department is strengthening its direction to medical facilities to coordinate with relevant units to promote propaganda on disease prevention and control, especially infectious diseases in the summer. At the same time, it is strengthening training and improving the professional capacity of grassroots staff; tightening surveillance, early detection, and thorough handling of disease outbreaks from the household and residential area level. This is coupled with ensuring the supply of vaccines and medical supplies and improving disease forecasting capabilities.
Accordingly, the dissemination of information was carried out widely and proactively from the beginning of the year. The entire province organized 2,640 direct communication sessions in the community; over 152,000 people received information through home visits and examinations; and 445 news articles and reports on environmental hygiene and food safety were widely disseminated to every residential area and family, contributing to raising public awareness.
Ky Lua Ward is a "hotspot" area that has recorded many dengue fever cases, with two deaths in 2025. Learning from these costly lessons, this year, public awareness campaigns have been intensified. Dr. Vi Minh Duc, Director of the Ward Health Station, said: "We determined that communication must be proactive, not waiting until an outbreak occurs to implement measures. The station has proactively disseminated information through various forms to each residential area and household to guide people on how to eliminate mosquito larvae, maintain the habit of sleeping under mosquito nets, and regularly clean the environment. Thanks to persistent reminders, people's awareness has changed significantly; from being complacent, they are now voluntarily implementing disease prevention measures at home. Since the beginning of the year, no dengue fever cases have been recorded in the area."
Alongside public awareness campaigns, training to enhance the capacity of grassroots officials has also been emphasized. From the beginning of 2026 to the present, more than 210 health workers have received systematic training in monitoring and detecting dangerous infectious diseases such as dengue fever and parasitic diseases. Simultaneously, the provincial health sector has strengthened proactive preventive measures such as vaccination and disease control at the province's entry and exit points. In the first quarter of 2026, the rate of children under 1 year old receiving full vaccinations reached 92.4%, contributing to improved community immunity and early disease prevention; functional units conducted quarantine for over 531,000 incoming travelers and nearly 533,000 outgoing travelers, helping to predict early new virus variants or unusual diseases that may spread through unofficial border crossings and checkpoints.
On the other hand, disease surveillance has been strengthened in key areas. The Provincial Center for Disease Control has established surveillance teams in areas where cases have been recorded to assess risks and guide the implementation of disease prevention measures. Dr. Vuong Van Cuong, Director of Tuan Son Commune Health Station, said: The commune has 30 villages with over 20,000 inhabitants, and the area has many roads with high traffic volume, posing a high risk of disease outbreaks. With the supervision and guidance of relevant agencies, this year the station has strengthened surveillance in high-risk areas; regularly disseminated information and encouraged people to maintain environmental hygiene and proactively eliminate mosquito larvae. As a result, the commune has not recorded any cases to date.
In reality, summer diseases don't wait until outbreaks to appear; they accumulate from small factors in the living environment. Therefore, when each citizen raises their awareness and each residential area proactively controls risks early on, it will contribute to creating a solid "shield" to protect public health.
