On the afternoon of May 21st, the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health announced the results of its review of a2 Platinum Premium infant formula for children aged 0-12 months following a voluntary recall warning in the US. Initial findings indicate no importation or sale of the batches of a2 Platinum formula subject to the US recall warning has been detected.
On May 4th, the Food Safety Department requested the Departments of Health and Food Safety Sub-departments in localities to review self-declarations and strengthen market inspections of a2 Platinum Premium infant formula products, which are under warning from the US. The Department also requested the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) to inspect the sale of the product on e-commerce platforms.
According to a report from the Ninh Binh Provincial Food Safety Department, the unit did not accept self-declaration applications or issue registration certificates for products under warning. Because the warned product shares the same brand name "a2," on May 15th, the Department worked with Song Lanh Business and Trade Service Solutions Co., Ltd. (the company that produces milk products under the "a2" brand). The review of the records did not reveal that the company imported or sold the a2 Platinum Premium USA formula milk product that was subject to the warning.
The company also reported that it had reviewed its entire system and confirmed that it had not imported, traded, or distributed in Vietnam the three batches of products subject to voluntary recall in the US. The a2 milk products currently sold domestically are a different product line, manufactured for the Australian and New Zealand markets. Testing of the product samples also did not detect Bacillus cereus bacteria or Cereulide toxin.
The Food Safety Department continues to urge relevant agencies and localities to strengthen market surveillance and inspect the sale of these products on e-commerce platforms to ensure the highest level of health safety for consumers.
The recalled product batches are 31.7-ounce tin cans distributed in the US market, including: batch 2210269454 (expiry date July 15, 2026); batch 2210324609 (expiry date January 21, 2027); and batch 2210321712 (expiry date January 15, 2027).
