Recognizing that building new rural areas is a long-term process with no end point, the Elderly Association of Nhon Phu commune has promoted the role of "Elderly people, shining examples," paying special attention to mass mobilization work.

Upon arriving at Hoa My 2 hamlet, it's easy to see the appearance of the New Rural Area (NRA) everywhere. The village is neat, clean, and beautifully decorated with flower-lined roads. Walking along the more than 2.2km long flower-lined road, vibrant with the colors of bougainvillea, ixora, and vinca, Ms. Le Thi Le Hoa, Head of the Elderly Association in the hamlet, said: “Every month, the association mobilizes female elderly members and residents to weed, care for flowers, replant, beautify public landscapes, and maintain bright, green, clean, and beautiful family gardens.”

Working alongside the local government and the Fatherland Front, the Elderly Association of the hamlet has mobilized residents to participate in the movement to clean up village roads and alleys, plant and care for flowerbeds and ornamental trees along self-managed roads, contributing to maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful environment. These practical actions beautify the landscape and appearance of the locality, contributing to raising awareness and changing people's behavior regarding environmental protection.

Ms. Truong Thi Chung (Hoa My 2 hamlet) said: “Every day I water the flowers in front of my house. Everyone contributes to making the flower-lined road even more beautiful. Thanks to that, everyone who passes by this section of road praises it. The countryside has changed a lot now.”

The Elderly Association encouraged its members and residents to clean up their houses, sidewalks, and roads in front of their homes before cleaning and beautifying the streets. "Along with setting a good example for our children and grandchildren to follow, the elderly hope to contribute their efforts to practical activities for the community and change the face of the countryside," added Ms. Hoa.

According to Mr. Vo Van Cong, Vice Chairman of the Elderly Association of the commune, the association promotes the "Elderly - Shining Examples" movement in conjunction with building new rural areas through practical actions, suitable to the reality of each branch and the capabilities of its members, and in line with President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "Poor mass mobilization leads to poor results in everything. Skillful mass mobilization leads to success in everything." As a result, the movement has been actively embraced by officials, members, and the elderly, who have donated land, contributed labor and resources, supported environmental sanitation, and enthusiastically engaged in production, contributing to the transformation of the rural landscape.

During the 2021-2026 term, the Vietnam Association of Elderly People (NCT) consistently played a core role in the New Rural Development movement. Specifically, they participated in repairing over 3.9km of roads, contributed over 200 man-days of labor planting ornamental trees and flowers along the roads; and 100% of NCT member households achieved cultural standards. With their prestige, NCT members successfully mediated over 175 disputes, contributing to maintaining social order and strengthening solidarity in residential areas.

According to the Elderly Association of Nhon Phu commune, the entire commune has over 8,850 elderly members, accounting for 27.08% of the population; participating in activities across 23 branches. The majority of members are clearly aware of their roles and responsibilities, actively participating in and effectively implementing campaigns and emulation movements in labor and production, environmental protection, and promoting and encouraging members and the people to build culturally exemplary families.

Mr. Ho Van Tho (Thanh Huong hamlet, Nhon Phu commune) sets an example in developing garden-based economy .

Notably, the Elderly Association of the commune launched the "Elderly Participating in Economic Development" movement, resulting in many effective business models. The entire commune has 364 elderly people who are successful in business, earning annual profits of 50 million VND or more; they actively participate in and support charitable and humanitarian work and social welfare with a total welfare value exceeding 750 million VND.

For example, Mr. Ho Van Tho (Thanh Huong hamlet) is one of the exemplary figures of "Elderly people setting a good example," contributing to spreading the spirit of labor and production emulation, economic development, and joint efforts in building new rural areas in the locality. "Before, my family's circumstances were very difficult, but I strived to improve my family's economy and raise my children. Now that I'm older, I must set an example for my children and grandchildren to work hard." Through his efforts to develop his orchard, Mr. Tho's 7 acres of durian and jackfruit trees are now bearing fruit, contributing positively to improving his family's income.

In addition to being a successful businessman, Mr. Tho is an exemplary member of the Elderly Association, actively participating in the association's and local community's activities and movements; he is always ready to share his experience and provide technical guidance on production to members and people in need to help improve their family's economic situation.

To achieve results that affirm the role of the Elderly Association, in addition to the efforts and contributions of each member, the Elderly Association of the commune creates the best conditions for the elderly to continue to utilize their wisdom and experience, and contribute effectively to building new rural areas.

Affirming his determination to develop the association into a strong organization, Mr. Le Van Luan, Chairman of the Elderly Association of the commune, emphasized that in the coming time, the association will continue to innovate the content and methods of its activities; promote the "Elderly - Shining Examples" movement in conjunction with the New Rural Development movement. Accordingly, it will encourage the elderly to actively participate in the movement to build a cultural life associated with New Rural Development, educate their children and relatives to properly implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws; maintain environmental hygiene, and effectively implement the criteria of being bright, green, clean, and beautiful in their families and residential areas… From there, it is determined to successfully achieve the targets set forth in the resolution.
