Elderly people in Ca Mau City promote the spirit of "Old age - Bright example"

Ca Mau City has 16 senior citizen associations at commune and ward levels, with nearly 18,000 senior citizen members participating in activities. In recent times, senior citizen associations at all levels in the city have always promoted a sense of responsibility, closely followed the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, organized propaganda, and mobilized senior citizen members to actively perform their tasks in the locality and build a strong association.

In Ca Mau City, many elderly members hold the positions of Party cell secretary, head of residential group, hamlet chief, head of conciliation group and other positions of the Front and social organizations. Typically, in Hamlet 5, there are 32 members and residents who unanimously built the flower street. On the flower street with a length of more than 700 m, 32 households on the street have planted trumpet flowers, portulaca, periwinkle, bougainvillea, and cotton flowers... These are flower varieties with good vitality, fast growth, beautiful colors, easy to care for, adaptable to the weather, especially flowers blooming all year round. To keep the street always blooming and expanding, the elderly members in the hamlet work together to clear weeds, hoe the soil and water it."

Besides promoting the role of the elderly in patriotic emulation movements, the city's elderly association at all levels also pays great attention to taking care of the material and spiritual life of its members.

Ms. Trinh Tam Ly, Deputy Head of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Ca Mau City, said: “In recent years, the city's Elderly Association at all levels has played a core role in the movement "The whole people care for, support, and promote the role of the elderly". The Representative Board has consulted and coordinated with all levels, sectors, mass organizations, businesses, and entrepreneurs to care for the health of the elderly, especially the poor elderly, the elderly who are old and weak, and lonely and have no one to rely on. The elderly in Ca Mau City are visited when they are sick, ill, and given gifts on holidays and traditional Tet holidays of the nation. Every year, thousands of poor and disadvantaged elderly people receive free consultation, health check-ups, and medicine. Many units have organized volunteer teams to go to their homes to care for and help the poor, sick, and seriously ill elderly people".

In addition to activities to care for the material life, the city's elderly association at all levels also propagates and mobilizes elderly officials and members to participate in cultural, artistic and sports activities suitable for improving the health of the elderly.

Through propaganda and mobilization, up to now, the city has 14 clubs with many types of activities attracting more than 2,300 elderly people to participate. The elderly have contributed to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the nation, while also contributing to improving the health of the elderly. Many typical collective and individual examples in the field of culture and art, such as: Elderly people of Ward 1, Ward 5, Ward 8, Ward 9, Tan Xuyen Ward and Ly Van Lam Commune. Despite their old age and declining health, the elderly still exercise every day. Notable are the Health Care Club and the Intergenerational Self-Help Club of Ward 5; Club of Hamlet 8, Ward 8; Arts and Health Care Club of Ward 9, Thanh Xuan Folk Dance Club of Ly Van Lam Commune and the Health Care Team of Tan Xuyen Ward.

To promote the role of the elderly, in the coming time, the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Ca Mau City will both promote activities to care for the elderly in terms of material matters and create conditions for them to continue to contribute and participate in associations and clubs, and advise the locality on building a cultural life and preserving national identity./.
