In the women's singles round of 16 held yesterday (February 21), Vu Thi Trang ( world No. 129) defeated the higher-ranked Lin Sih-yun (Taiwan, world No. 92) with a score of 2-0. This victory propelled Trang into the quarterfinals, where she will face the second seed Chaiwan Lalinrat (Thailand, world No. 55).
Vu Thi Trang advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore badminton tournament with the help of Nguyen Tien Minh.
At the Singapore tournament, Vietnamese badminton fans witnessed an interesting scene when Nguyen Tien Minh took to the court as a coach, directing Vu Thi Trang. Vu Thi Trang was born in 1992 in Bac Giang, one of the cradles of Vietnamese badminton. She won a bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, bronze medals at the SEA Games in 2013 and 2015, and her highest career ranking was 34th in the world (in 2017). She also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
