After the merger, these two areas merged to form Dam Rong 4 commune, with the commune center located in the former Da Long commune. The desire to have the road completed grew even stronger to make administrative procedures easier.
"Failing" the schedule
The DT.722 route was approved by the People's Committee of Lam Dong province (formerly) on October 1, 2021, with a total investment of 600 billion VND. Of this, 500 billion VND was supplemented by the central government budget and 100 billion VND by the provincial budget.

The project aims to create a parallel longitudinal axis along National Highway 20, connecting the Da Lat and Dam Rong areas with Dak Lak province; gradually complete the transportation infrastructure in the province according to the approved plan; meet the increasing transportation needs, create conditions to promote socio -economic development, and ensure security and national defense in the locality.

The road, with a total length of 18.9 km, starts at the intersection with Truong Son Dong road at Dung K'No junction (formerly Dung K'No commune) and ends at Km 18+900 in Da Long commune (formerly Dam Rong district). The project is managed by the Lam Dong Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board (now Investment and Construction Project Management Board No. 1). Construction commenced on October 1, 2022, and was built to the standards of a Class IV mountain road. Three reinforced concrete bridges are included along the route.

According to the original plan, the entire project was to be completed between 2021 and 2024. However, the construction is still in disarray.
Mr. Tran Van Hiep, Head of Project Monitoring, Investment and Construction Project Management Board No. 1, said: Previously, the implementation of this project faced many difficulties in land clearance due to forest areas belonging to the Da Nhim Forest Management Board and the Serepok Forest Management Board. The project completed the procedures for changing the land use purpose of the forest in March 2025 and finished the tree felling work to hand over the full land area in May 2025.

Currently, the project has disbursed 65.217 billion VND of its allocated capital. It is expected that by the end of 2025, the remaining 191.983 billion VND from the central government budget will be fully disbursed. However, construction is behind schedule. The contract has now been extended until mid-2026.

Present at the construction site on August 8th, reporters observed that the construction unit had deployed numerous vehicles, machinery, and equipment for the project. However, continuous rain in the area caused interruptions to the construction.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, representative of the construction unit, said: Currently, the contractor has paved the road surface with asphalt concrete at both ends of the route. The three bridges on the route are basically completed. The cumulative volume is estimated to be over 53%.
Due to recent heavy rains, construction cannot proceed. While a large quantity of aggregate materials has been stockpiled at the construction site, the roadbed is not yet in place, making it impossible to lay crushed stone.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, representative of the construction unit, said:
People are waiting.
Following the administrative boundary merger, the DT.722 road is now entirely within the boundaries of Dam Rong 4 commune. This is currently the only, vital road connecting the Dung K'No area with the commune center.

Mr. Tran Phu Vinh, Secretary of Dam Rong 4 commune, said: "After the merger, there was a lot of work to be done. Especially with the merger of communes from two districts like Dung K'No and Da Long, the difficulties were even greater. Immediately after its establishment, gathering information and implementing tasks in the Dung K'No area of Dam Rong 4 commune faced many difficulties. Commune leaders could only travel by motorbike, which took a lot of time. In rainy and windy weather, travel was almost impossible. This greatly affected the implementation of tasks of the commune after the merger in particular, and socio-economic development tasks in general."

Mr. Ha Quyen (25 years old), a resident of Dung K'No, shared: "Initially, when we saw the road construction starting, everyone was very happy, but even now, it's still not finished, making it very difficult to get to the production area in Dung Trang or to Da Long. Only the men in the house can go because the road is too muddy."

When the villagers saw the road being paved, they were all very happy and thought it would be finished soon. But it's still not completed. Even after the merger, although Dung K'No was incorporated into Dam Rong 4 commune, I still haven't been able to go to the commune center even once.
Ms. Dinh Thi Nhien (36 years old), who lives near Km 0 of the DT.722 road, shared:

Due to the extremely difficult transportation conditions, to ensure the smooth processing of administrative procedures for residents in the Dung K'No area, Dam Rong 4 commune has assigned 5 officials to be on duty at the former Dung K'No commune office. Documents requiring in-person stamping will be collected and brought to the commune center by the officials to provide the greatest convenience for the people in the Dung K'No area.
To develop transportation, we must be one step ahead. This is especially true for Dung K'No and Da Long, the two most disadvantaged areas of the former Lac Duong and Dam Rong districts. The need to create a single road connecting these two areas is even more urgent now that they have been merged.

To overcome the adverse weather conditions, contractors proactively carried out other tasks during the peak of the rainy season, such as casting concrete components and constructing reinforced concrete structures. When the weather is favorable, they need to increase manpower and resources and work overtime to minimize delays.
After nearly three years of waiting, the promise of completing the road remains elusive. Residents of Dam Rong 4 in particular, and Lam Dong province in general, hope that the investor and contractor will find solutions to address the shortcomings in construction and accelerate progress, completing the project soon to open the road for convenient transportation, promote socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security throughout the province.
