
According to data released by Stats NZ, services exports increased by 17% to NZ$11.5 billion this quarter compared to the same period last year. Tourism services led the growth, increasing by 23% to NZ$7 billion.
Specifically, according to Viki Ward, spokesperson for New Zealand's National Statistics Office for International Accounts, the category measuring spending by foreign visitors in New Zealand accounts for more than 80% of the total increase in services exports.
Exports from individual tourists increased by 22% to NZ$6.7 billion, while business travel increased by 65% to NZ$364 million.
According to data released by Stats NZ, both types of individual travel – holidays and visits to family and friends, along with travel for educational purposes – increased in the third quarter of 2026.
Stats NZ also added that Australia remains the largest source of tourists, contributing NZ$1.3 billion to individual tourism exports and accounting for 36% of total visitors in the third quarter of 2026.
