Man has multiple pus pockets in his brain due to habit of popping pimples

A Chinese man was hospitalized with multiple pus-filled brain cysts, the result of his habit of squeezing pimples on his face with dirty hands.

The patient, a 47-year-old man surnamed Tang, had a habit of popping pimples. But while popping a pimple between his lips and nose, his body began to have problems, according to Daily Advent.
“At that time, I had acne on my face. I squeezed it out very easily. I had squeezed pimples like that before because they were itchy and painful, but this time things were different,” Mr. Duong recalled.
Just two weeks later, he suffered from a severe headache. His family eventually took him to the Second People's Hospital in Hunan Province, China.
He was conscious when he was admitted to the hospital. However, his physical reactions gradually weakened and his fever reached 39.3 degrees Celsius. Doctors discovered that he had severe cerebral edema.
After performing many tests, Mr. Duong was diagnosed with intracranial infection, multiple brain abscesses, and pus accumulation in many places in the brain. This is considered a severe infection and life-threatening.
After a period of treatment, Mr. Duong is out of danger and is gradually recovering. Local media did not disclose whether he has been discharged from the hospital.
Mr. Duong’s acne is located below his nose and just above his lips. This is located in the area called the “triangle of death” on the face, extending from the bridge of the nose to the two sides of the lips.
This area of skin should not be squeezed because it will be especially dangerous if infected. Blood from the “triangle of death” will circulate to the skull. Therefore, an infection from the facial skin can enter the skull through the bloodstream and cause an infection inside the skull, thereby seriously affecting the brain, according to Daily Advent.
“The blood circulation in the face is very complicated. Blood vessels are intertwined and weave through the facial muscles. Therefore, when the facial muscles contract, blood can flow from the face back into the skull,” explained Dr. Chu Cao Ap, who directly treated Mr. Duong.
Therefore, if an infection appears on the face, especially in the “triangle of death”, people should not squeeze it hard with their hands. Bacteria in pimples or boils can follow the blood vessels into the skull, causing infection and forming pus pockets inside, experts warn.
