Accordingly, patient TVQ (43 years old, Van Phu ward, Phu Tho province), about 20 minutes before being admitted to the hospital, was bitten by many ants on both legs. Immediately afterwards, symptoms appeared including itchy red rashes all over the body, sweating, and lethargy. The family took him to the hospital for emergency treatment.

At the Emergency Department of Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital, the patient was in a lethargic state, sweating profusely, with generalized skin redness, shortness of breath, laryngeal stridor, and severely low blood pressure (60/40 mmHg), with a weak pulse. The patient was diagnosed with grade III anaphylaxis (critical anaphylaxis) due to an ant bite and was immediately treated with intravenous fluids, adrenaline, antihistamines, and corticosteroids. After 30 minutes of treatment, the patient regained consciousness, hemodynamics stabilized, the rash and itching subsided, and shortness of breath improved. After 2 days, the patient's condition stabilized and they were discharged from the hospital.

Doctors advise caution regarding ants and other biting insects during the summer months.

According to MSc. Dr. Ha The Linh, Deputy Head of the Emergency Department at Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital, anaphylaxis is an extremely dangerous acute allergic reaction that can occur just minutes after contact with allergens such as food, medicine, insect venom, etc. In particular, many people often underestimate insect bites, thinking they only cause mild pain or itching. However, in people with allergies, insect venom can trigger a violent immune response, leading to hypotension, respiratory failure, and circulatory arrest if not treated promptly.

Dr. Ha The Linh advises that if bitten by an insect, and symptoms such as a rash all over the body, difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling of the lips and tongue, dizziness, lethargy, or low blood pressure appear, people should quickly go to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment and absolutely not self-monitor at home.

Summer is a time when insects are most active, increasing the risk of being bitten by ants, bees, or other insects. People should wear protective clothing when working outdoors, clear vegetation around their homes, and exercise caution when working in areas with many insects to prevent unfortunate accidents.
