In preparation for the 2025 Lunar New Year, many garden owners in Me Linh district (Hanoi) are busy tending to their flowers and preparing various designs to supply the market. |
Roses are grown year-round by the locals here due to the demand for decoration and as gifts during holidays throughout the year. |
Besides roses, the Me Linh flower-growing region (Hanoi), with over 600 hectares, also cultivates a diverse range of other flowers such as chrysanthemums, lilies, and petunias. |
| Fields of yellow chrysanthemums stretch across the countryside of Me Linh district. |
After Typhoon No. 3 ( Yagi ), chrysanthemums are being grown in greater quantities by local people because they are a short-day variety that blooms on schedule. "My chrysanthemums have been growing for over 30 days and now it's time to use artificial lighting so they bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year). Chrysanthemums usually take about 3 months to harvest," shared farmer Le Van Hieu. |
| Mr. Nguyen The Ngoc (from Me Linh flower village) is driving stakes and stretching netting to protect his flower garden. "This year I mainly grow chrysanthemums to sell for Tet (Lunar New Year), and the market is currently stable because the supply isn't too abundant," Mr. Ngoc said. |
Flowers such as petunias, impatiens, gladioli, marigolds, roses, and lilies... are grown in pots and available year-round. |
The farmers are taking care of the flowers day and night. |
Besides cultivating seasonal flowers, the locals also grow many types of trees for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) such as kumquats, peach blossoms, and pomelos. |
Mr. Nguyen Duc An said, "The kumquat trees are in the final stage of care, and some trees already have beautiful golden-yellow fruits." |
Many kumquat trees have already been reserved by people, who are just waiting to bring them home for Tet (Lunar New Year). |
Peach growers in Me Linh are also busily stripping leaves and preparing for the process of nurturing buds to encourage the peach trees to bloom, ready to serve during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025. |
