WhatsApp has just launched Writing Help for iOS, bringing intelligent message suggestions and editing capabilities. While Apple is still struggling with Apple Intelligence, WhatsApp has quickly brought useful AI to iPhone users.
The app allows users to choose from a variety of writing styles, including:
Rephrase: more clearly, more fluently but keeping the same meaning.
Professional: formal, polite language.
Humor: add a little wit, fun.
Support: gentle, optimistic.
Check: correct spelling and grammar errors.
Notably, the recipient of the message will not know that the text has been processed by AI. Meta asserts that Private Processing technology helps keep messages private and does not scan chat data.
Writing Help is disabled by default and users will need to enable it if they want to experience it. Currently, WhatsApp is rolling out in English for the US and some other countries, and is expected to expand to more languages and markets this year.
Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 16 is still considered to be lagging behind Galaxy AI on the Samsung Galaxy S25 or Gemini on the Pixel 10. WhatsApp's entry into the AI game not only brings practical benefits, but also puts more pressure on Apple to improve its smart ecosystem.
With Writing Help, iPhone users now have a tool to help them write messages quickly, smoothly, and in context – something Apple has yet to do well.
