High expectations often lead to great disappointment; that's the sentiment of VCS fans after their beloved team, GAM, lost 2-0 to LLL with a very poor performance at the 2023 World Championship.
GAM lost to a team considered weaker.
Fans have probably lost patience with GAM, especially after their Game 2 match against LLL, where despite leading by 5,000 gold and having Baron advantage, GAM somehow allowed LLL to stage a comeback and defeat them 2-0 on the opening day. This humiliating defeat is the reason fans are turning their backs on their beloved team. What exactly is GAM doing at this year's World Championship?
With faith in GAM completely depleted, VCS fans are placing all their hopes on the region's second seed, Team Whales.
Team Whales' first day at the World Championship.
On their opening day, TW faced a formidable opponent from Europe, BĐS, who had previously defeated GG 3-0 in a best-of-five series. They struggled in game 1, with BĐS's top laner Adam single-handedly taking on 3 or even 4 members of the TW team. However, the defeat in game 1 did not discourage the TW players.
Game 2 was Artemis's stage, as he successfully solo-killed BDS's top laner to force the series into a decisive Game 3.
Game 3 started perfectly when Bie outsmarted the opponent, allowing Artemis to easily secure first blood. From there, Artemis showed the world what a "super marksman" is like as he and his teammates pushed into the enemy base and proudly won the game 2-1.
A mix of pride and emotion washed over TW's convincing victory against a formidable opponent. Their gameplay and performance in their world debut left fans deeply satisfied. If Team Whales hadn't won, the entire VCS region would have been significantly impacted, potentially losing a slot in the next World Championship.
Team Whales' second day of competition.
"Thank you" is probably the two words fans want to send to TW right now. They just defeated CFO, a pretty strong team from the PCS. It was the same old story: TW lost in game 1 but then staged a comeback in the next two games. The intense Dragon-Tiger showdown at the end of game 3 was particularly thrilling, with both teams fighting fiercely for every single combat. And when TW eliminated each of their opponents' players, it marked the moment of explosive success for the entire VCS.
BeanJ (Forest), Glory (Mid)
Thank you Sparda for not giving up, thank you BeanJ for your courageous performance, thank you Glory for outplaying your opponents on the other side, thank you Artemis for carrying the team's damage, thank you Bie, the captain who led the Whales to victory, and a thank you to the TW coaching staff for their contributions to this win, giving fans more peace of mind and confidence in what they are hoping for. Only one more BO5 match to go, let's go TW and take VCS to the Swiss qualifiers!
