On November 23, at the Cinema Center of Thua Thien - Hue province, the Department of Culture and Information of the province held a ceremony to receive the title of national intangible cultural heritage "Knowledge of sewing and wearing Hue Ao Dai".
The ceremony was attended by leaders of Thua Thien - Hue Provincial People's Committee, representatives of departments, branches, artists, designers, artisans of Ao Dai from 3 regions and many people of Hue.
The opening ceremony was a performance of ao dai collections by designers from three regions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien - Hue province, said that Thua Thien - Hue is proud and honored to be the first locality to have its ao dai heritage honored.
According to Mr. Hai, in the coming time, Thua Thien - Hue will continue to preserve, promote and further spread the value of Ao Dai in contemporary life; at the same time, promote the sustainable development of cultural industry, promote the culture of wearing Ao Dai along with local economic development.

“The Ao Dai cultural industry also creates conditions for the development of other industries such as the production of souvenirs, toys, accessories, cinema, fine arts, etc. This is the direction for the development of the cultural industry, serving domestic and export needs, creating jobs, bringing revenue to businesses, increasing income for people, while preserving and spreading the values imbued with Hue's cultural identity,” said Mr. Hai.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien - Hue province will propose to the provincial leaders and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to allow the construction of a scientific dossier "Knowledge of sewing and wearing Hue Ao Dai" to submit to UNESCO for consideration of recognition as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Within the framework of the program, there is also a photo exhibition with the theme "Contemporary Ao Dai Convergence of 3 Regions" with unique Ao Dai sets, an opportunity for the public to learn more about Ao Dai sewing styles.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, President of the Women's Union of An Dong Ward (Hue City), shared: "Before being recognized as a heritage, myself and the women of Hue were always proud and honored to wear the traditional ao dai. Today, the culture of Hue ao dai is recognized as an intangible heritage, we are even more honored and always want to spread that spirit of pride to many other women."
Previously, on August 9, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to recognize "Knowledge of sewing and wearing Hue Ao Dai" as a national intangible cultural heritage.
