Thomas Tuchel's England team is under a lot of pressure ahead of the World Cup. |
According to British media, only about 13,000 tickets have been sold for the friendly match between England and New Zealand on June 6th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
Meanwhile, the stadium has a capacity of up to 69,000 seats, meaning approximately 50,000 seats could be empty.
This is the first warm-up match for Thomas Tuchel's team before the 2026 World Cup. Harry Kane and his teammates will face New Zealand at the home stadium of the NFL club Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the appeal of the "Three Lions" in the US is not as high as expected.
The English Football Association (FA) allocated 3,776 tickets to the official England Supporters Travel Club. However, only about 1,500 people have registered to buy tickets so far. Despite the state of Florida having around 400,000 British residents, the level of interest remains quite low.
The cheapest tickets for the match cost around £54. The FA believes this price is appropriate for the sporting landscape in the US. However, compared to other friendly matches, this price is still considered unattractive.
Meanwhile, the US team had significantly better ticket sales. Tickets for the friendly match between the US and Senegal started at just £29, while tickets for the match against Germany ranged from £101 to £661.
Following their match against New Zealand, England will play another friendly against Costa Rica in Orlando on June 10th. This match sold approximately 12,000 tickets for the 25,500-seat Inter&Co Stadium.
According to FIFA, approximately 5 million out of a total of 6 million tickets for the 2026 World Cup have been sold. However, the unsold tickets for the England team show that the excitement surrounding pre-tournament friendly matches hasn't been as explosive as expected.
