According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, Ha Tinh will be in the eye of storm No. 5. Before the storm warning, local people proactively bought and stocked up on essential necessities.
At traditional markets, the number of buyers increased compared to normal days. Fresh products such as meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits, etc. were consumed strongly. In addition, products that are easy to store such as eggs, instant noodles, bread, water, and dry food were also in high demand.
According to pork traders, for nearly a month now, due to the impact of African swine fever, people have been cautious, so purchasing power has decreased. However, this morning, to stock up on food for the storm, the number of buyers has increased dramatically.
Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - a fish seller at Ha Tinh market said: " This morning, there were quite a lot of customers and they bought more than usual. By 10am, I had sold out, so I told my family to bring more fish to sell."
Not only at the market, large supermarkets in the area such as Co.opmart Ha Tinh and WinMart Ha Tinh also recorded an increase in the number of customers coming to shop. To meet the demand, supermarkets have proactively mobilized employees to work at 100% capacity, increased imports and kept prices stable.
Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Trang (Thach Ha commune) shared: " To proactively provide food for my family during storms, heavy rains, and difficult travel, I bought more fresh food such as meat, fish, vegetables, and instant noodles. However, I only buy enough for 2-3 days, not too much."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang - Director of Co.opmart Ha Tinh Supermarket said: "Today, we received 2 more trucks with more than 16 tons of goods, mainly fresh food, dried goods such as instant noodles, dry food, drinking water, and especially lighting equipment, flashlights, batteries... to serve people's consumption".
Ms. Hang also affirmed: “ The source of goods is prepared abundantly and diversely, and prices are kept stable. Many essential goods are even discounted, ensuring people can shop. We actively coordinate with suppliers to flexibly supplement goods according to actual needs, ensuring that there is no shortage of goods or price increases .”
Along with food items, people also proactively buy backup products such as mini gas stoves and rechargeable appliances. At the same time, electronics and household electrical stores in the area also became bustling as the number of shoppers increased.
According to household electrical retailers in Thanh Sen ward, from yesterday afternoon to this afternoon, the number of customers coming to buy was very large, especially rechargeable lamps, spare batteries, batteries and rechargeable fans. The number of customers increased 3-4 times compared to normal days.
Due to high purchasing power in a short period of time, some battery-powered product models are "sold out".
Although proactive preparation is necessary, authorities also advise people not to hoard excessively or buy in bulk, putting pressure on the distribution system and disrupting the market. Instead, people should choose sufficient quantities, prioritizing essential items that are easy to preserve. In addition to food, it is advisable to prepare additional lighting support equipment, battery chargers, radios or water tanks to ensure daily life and communication in the event of a power outage or prolonged bad weather.
In response to storm No. 5, the Department of Industry and Trade has issued an official dispatch requesting localities to propagate and mobilize people to proactively stockpile food, foodstuffs, drinking water and other essential goods on the spot, enough for use and to prepare for responding to natural disasters, and direct enterprises, cooperatives and business households in the area to proactively stockpile essential goods, ensure supply, and promptly respond in case of separation, isolation or disruption of supply sources. At the same time, direct the Market Management Department to strengthen market inspection and control, promptly detect and strictly handle violations of the law in commercial activities; promptly prevent and promptly handle acts of taking advantage of natural disasters to speculate, hoard goods, and unreasonably increase prices for illegal profits, ensuring market stability before, during and after the storm.
