The one who sows the light of goodness

QTO - Without showing off, without needing recognition, and never thinking about compensation, for over 7 years, Mr. Tran Huu Que (born in 1976), in Hao Son village, Con Tien commune, has quietly spread love on his volunteer journey. For him, each act of kindness is a joy, a way to live more fully with life and the community.

Actions that come from a good heart

At the end of 2018, when reading a friend's call on social media to help some poor households in Gio Linh district (old), Mr. Que quietly prepared 10 gifts of necessities to give to those in need.

From that small beginning, he gradually became a familiar name in charity activities in Gio Linh and many other localities. Whenever there was information on Facebook or through friends and relatives about difficult circumstances, Mr. Que arranged his work and went to support. Sometimes it was a few hundred thousand dong, sometimes it was just a bottle of cooking oil, a kilo of sugar, a carton of milk... No matter the form, no need to know each other, for him, a good heart is the only reason.

Mr. Le Chi Phi, Deputy Head of the Central Region External Relations Department of the Vietnam Volunteer Community, Chairman of the Vietnam Volunteer Community in Quang Tri Province commented: “Wherever there are difficulties, there is Mr. Que. He is an enthusiastic, responsible person who always strives for true human values. Mr. Que does charity work with all his heart. He often spends his own money to support programs and mobilizes people to spread the spirit of sharing. With his quiet but persistent contributions, in June 2025, Mr. Que was honored by the Vietnam Volunteer Community as a typical volunteer model nationwide.”

In particular, during the historic flood in 2020, he connected with many volunteer groups in the province to promptly support people in flooded areas in the districts of Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, Dakrong and distant provinces such as Quang Ngai , Thanh Hoa...

From the time the water was still flooding the fields until the people gradually stabilized their lives, he continuously traveled to the localities to deliver gifts, without a moment of rest. “Seeing people living in the open, I felt I needed to do something, even if it was small,” he shared.

In 2021, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out strongly, Mr. Que joined the Volunteer Team of the Red Cross Society of Gio Linh district (old). Immediately after that, he volunteered to work for 18 consecutive days at the Cau market checkpoint to measure body temperature and guide people on epidemic prevention.

Not only that, he also participates in distributing free porridge to patients being treated at medical centers in the districts: Gio Linh, Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, Dakrong... Every week, he and his volunteer group go to clean historical sites, public places, help lonely elderly people, and families with preferential policies to repaint their houses.

Or one afternoon in September 2024, on his way home after a volunteer trip, when passing Cau Market, he met a man who was hitchhiking. After a few minutes of asking, knowing that this man had lost his way on his way back to his hometown in Quang Binh (old) after the flood, he immediately helped him catch a ride, paid for the fare and gave him an additional 200,000 VND so that he could eat and drink along the way. “At that time, I didn’t think much of it. I just helped when I saw that I could help,” he said lightly.

Persistent with many meaningful charitable and humanitarian activities

Not only is he an active volunteer, Mr. Que is also a shining example in the humanitarian blood donation movement in Quang Tri. The first time he donated blood was in 2016 at the Gio Linh District Cultural House (old). “At that time, I only dared to donate 250ml. Now I am used to it, so I donate blood 3 times a year, 350ml each time. Up to now, I have donated blood a total of 24 times,” he said.

For many years, he has been a member of the Quang Tri Province Voluntary Blood Donation Club. What is special is that he does not wait for a fixed blood donation day, but whenever he hears that a patient needs blood urgently, he will be there, day or night, rain or shine or long distance.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Head of the Quang Tri Province Voluntary Blood Donation Club, said: “Mr. Que is a very dedicated person. Whenever someone needs blood, he goes, never hesitating or refusing. Not only that, he also encourages his relatives and friends to participate.”

In addition to volunteer activities within and outside the province, Mr. Que also pays special attention to his hometown people. As a person attached to the Gio An vegetable area, he has proactively connected output for more than 20 vegetable growing households in Hao Son village, helping them have a stable place to consume at reasonable prices.

In 2024, he and the Red Cross Society of Gio Linh District (old) and a business organized a house painting program for poor households. As a result, 5 houses in the communes of Gio An, Gio Quang, Gio Son, Gio My, and Gio Linh town were given a “new coat”. In addition, he is also a member of the rescue canoe team of Gio Linh District (old). Every time the rainy and stormy season comes, he is ready to go when there is information about people drowning.

Although he had a traffic accident during a charity trip and had to be hospitalized, that did not deter him. After being discharged from the hospital for a while, he was present in charity activities from remote mountainous areas to windy coastal areas. Mr. Que's journey is not just about trips, gifts or blood donations, it is a journey of sowing seeds of love, persistently and silently.
