The staff at the restaurant impressed with their "sour" attitude and "singing-like" scolding. |
Bato Cafe Omokenashi Café is a pop-up restaurant that opened in Tokyo, Japan from September 14 to 23. The restaurant has a bright space and the staff wear bright pink aprons.
The cafe serves both food and drinks, with dishes prepared under the supervision of Michelin-starred chef Shuhei Sawada. From the outside, everything about the cafe looked normal, until the staff started swearing at customers.
According to SCMP, this "unique" service style was inspired by the famous Japanese television producer Nobuyuki Sakuma. Accordingly, in his show, Sakuma invited young girls to scold a group of comedians. Whoever listened to the scolding but still laughed or got less angry would win.
An employee cursed while diners were eating. |
A reporter from Japanese media outlet Rocketnews24 experienced the restaurant firsthand. According to him, the female waitress there was difficult and impatient from the beginning.
"Order now, pig?" the waitress urged. She also used some "gangster"-like words instead of the polite manners usually seen in restaurants and eateries.
After the reporter ordered a pork bowl for 3,590 yen ( $25 ), the waitress said, "You will be eating your own kind."
Not only that, the female employee did not leave after the customer ordered, but continued to curse at him many times. She said things like: "What kind of hairstyle is that? Do you think you're cool? What's that T-shirt you're wearing? It's so cheesy."
According to SCMP, the restaurant has about 10 waiters who are constantly rude to customers at the same time. Each day, the restaurant has a different manager, who are the sharpest people in Sakuma's shows, such as 22-year-old model Mirichamu.
According to Sakuma, this cafe is not only popular with customers, but also elevates the position of the waitresses. Normally, waitresses in Japan must always maintain a polite attitude, work meticulously, and endure unreasonable requests from aggressive customers.
The quality of food at the restaurant is rated quite good. |
At Bato Cafe Omokenashi Café, each customer can only "enjoy" the "swearing" service for one hour and must make a reservation in advance. In addition, the restaurant offers a "VIP service" that costs more if customers request to be spanked with slippers on the face and buttocks.
Some of the gifts customers received after their experience were photos of them being insulted or beaten by waitresses.
In particular, diners can still eat and drink normally at the restaurant if they wear a card that says "no abuse".
The story of this restaurant with a unique business method quickly received discussion from the online community. Many people shared their experiences of visiting this restaurant and said they really liked the "sour" waitresses, in addition to the delicious food.
Meanwhile, others condemned the restaurant's business practices as going against Japanese culture.
