Vietnam National Opera and Ballet brings the classic ballet Giselle to the audience

Following the overwhelming success of Swan Lake, on the nights of August 2 and 3, at the Hanoi Opera House, the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, with the accompaniment of Thanh Productions, continues to bring to the public Giselle - a classic ballet bearing the historical mark of a romantic period.

Inspired by Victor Hugo's poem about a girl who died after an all-night ball in 1841 Paris, Giselle was the creative creation of choreographer Jean Corali and composer Adolphe Adam.

Throughout the ballet Giselle is a message of love and forgiveness. Perhaps there is no more powerful energy than love, and human forgiveness also stems from love.

One of the elements that makes Giselle always make a special impression on the audience is its two-act structure, which is extremely contrasting. Act one is set in a village in southern Germany, in the Middle Ages, during the harvest season, filled with peace and joy of the festive season.

Giselle, an innocent, beautiful and shy girl, is chosen to be the queen of that year's harvest. Act two, on the other hand, is set in the afterlife, a world full of illusions, after Giselle's death. The scene is impressive with ghosts floating in the misty, unpredictable clouds. A world full of resentment, thirst for revenge but still has the presence of love.

The golden couple of Vietnamese ballet, Thu Hang - Duc Hieu, continue to play the soloist roles of Giselle and Prince Albrecht. Meanwhile, some other roles are taken on by talented young artists. This is considered a new and rich breath for the play.

With this return of Giselle, the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet hopes to bring the audience to the true art of classical ballet, recreating the delicate techniques of hard-nosed ballet.

Mr. Phan Manh Duc, Theater Director and Artistic Director, shared: “We have been implementing the right artistic criteria. We hope to bring the audience a real sense of classical ballet techniques along with the artists' acting ability, creating a professional academic art environment, meeting the increasing enjoyment needs of the public.”

The special thing about the Giselle production that the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theater introduces to the public is the smooth coordination between a cast of famous and experienced elite artists such as Meritorious Artist Phan Luong, Meritorious Artist Nhu Quynh, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Can, Thu Hang, Duc Hieu,... with the youthful energy of talented artists such as Lan Nhi, Khanh Bang, Lan Chi...

Each artist, each actor has his or her own personality and appeal, all contributing to creating a quality and emotional work of art.
