Bahrain – Foulath Holding, a Bahrain-based industrial conglomerate, has signed a partnership with Yellow Door Energy, a leading sustainable energy company in the Middle East and Africa, to build a record-breaking 123 MWp rooftop solar power plant, considered the world's largest to date.
The project is being developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model, comprising 77,000 solar panels installed on the roof of a new 262,000 m² warehouse complex, providing a capacity of up to 50 MWp.
The official announcement was made during the third Gateway Gulf Investment Forum held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Bahrain Bay, with the participation of investors, business leaders, policymakers, and officials from many countries.
As an island nation with limited land area, Bahrain faces challenges in developing large-scale ground-based solar farms. Therefore, rooftop solar power systems are considered the optimal solution, effectively utilizing space while ensuring a plentiful supply of clean electricity.
The overall project includes 10 rooftop solar power systems and 4 ground-mounted systems, estimated to produce 200 million kWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to a reduction of over 90,000 tons of CO₂ emissions into the environment.
According to Meshary Al-Judaimi, Chairman of Foulath Holding, the company has invested over $250 million in sustainable development projects in recent years. This collaboration with Yellow Door Energy marks a strategic step in its journey to green its production operations and move towards carbon neutrality.
“As a leading investor in sustainable infrastructure and a major shareholder of Yellow Door Energy, we are proud to see this project launched and look forward to the positive results it will bring,” said Al-Judaimi.
When completed, more than 189,900 high-efficiency solar panels will cover an area of up to 707,000 m², opening a new chapter in Bahrain's energy transition and contributing to the realization of the Net Zero goal by 2060.
