Sharing withThe Gioi & Viet Nam Newspaper on the occasion of International Women in Diplomacy Day (June 24) - an occasion to honor the silent but intellectual and courageous contributions of female diplomats around the world, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet expressed her pride in being a female Ambassador, representing Vietnam in Bulgaria, a country with a special traditional friendship with Vietnam.

Turn challenges into opportunities

According to Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, this is a meaningful occasion to look back on the development of generations of female Vietnamese diplomats - those who have inherited and promoted the tradition of "heroic, indomitable, loyal and responsible". Right from the beginning, female diplomats have continued the tradition, demonstrating their mettle, intelligence and perseverance, constantly striving to overcome challenges, excellently completing their tasks and contributing to the overall success of foreign affairs.

In recent years, the female diplomatic staff has been proud of the remarkable progress, notably the first time the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had two female Deputy Ministers in 2023. This is a recognition of the capacity and qualities of women in the sector, and at the same time reflects an increasingly open working environment, creating conditions for women to develop comprehensively.

However, to achieve these successes, female diplomats have faced many difficulties. The nature of the job requires flexibility, frequent business trips, participation in foreign affairs events and overseas assignments, making balancing work and family life a major challenge. In particular, convincing relatives to accompany them on overseas assignments has never been easy. In addition, the high-pressure work environment requires female officials to always be alert, flexible and steadfast.

"Those difficulties have helped me and many of my female colleagues hone our mettle, our flexibility in communication, and our ability to adapt quickly. The secret to overcoming our challenges is our spirit of continuous learning, our proactive efforts to improve our own abilities, our constant belief in ourselves, and our use of our natural feminine qualities such as flexibility, delicacy, patience, and dexterity. The combination of a steely spirit and a soft heart has helped us overcome our limitations and contribute effectively to foreign affairs," the Ambassador emphasized.

A promising start

On June 3, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet presented the President's credentials to Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, officially beginning her term as Ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria. The term takes place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2025). The Ambassador believes that this is a favorable opportunity to further promote the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria.

In the two months since taking up her duties in the area, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet and the staff of the Embassy have carried out many practical activities, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Bulgaria relationship in many fields. Notable activities include: Arranging for the Vietnam-Bulgaria Friendship Association delegation in Hanoi to pay a visit to the President of Bulgaria, Mr. Rumen Radev (June 4); attending the Conference on promoting the resources of the Vietnamese community to promote Vietnam-EU relations in Belgium (June 7); participating in the Asian Festival with art performances, folk games, promoting Vietnamese culture in the host country (June 14); organizing a press meeting with representatives of 20 Bulgarian media agencies (June 27); preparing for the Vietnam-Bulgaria Economic Cooperation Forum (July 3).

Taking up her mission in the “land of roses”, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet was deeply impressed with the country and its people. The capital Sofia welcomes the Ambassador with its peaceful scenery, ancient architecture and rich history and culture. Constructions such as Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Saint Sophia Cathedral or Ivan Vazov National Theater are testament to the cultural diversity and historical depth of this country. The Ambassador recalled an impressive experience during her two months of assignment, which was attending the Rose Festival in the Kazanlak Valley (June 8) – an event imbued with national identity, where one could feel the unique traditional culture and the friendliness and openness of the people.

However, the most impressive thing for Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet is the sincere affection of the Bulgarian people towards Vietnam. As one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (1950), Bulgaria has always given valuable support in the past and present. That affection is not only the bond between the two countries but also the motivation for the Ambassador and the Embassy to strive to further deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries.

In the coming time, the Embassy will continue to carry out meaningful and practical activities, creating new momentum to bring the Vietnam-Bulgaria relationship to a new height with three major priority groups. First , increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts to maintain political momentum in the relationship between the two countries. Second , promote economic - trade - investment cooperation on the basis of effectively utilizing the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the potential for bilateral cooperation, expanding cooperation not only in traditional fields such as agriculture, food, pharmaceuticals, but also towards new fields such as green technology, renewable energy, logistics and digital transformation... Third , promote people-to-people exchange, cultural cooperation, education - training, which are areas with a good tradition of cooperation between the two countries. With more than 30,000 Vietnamese people studying, working and living in Bulgaria, according to Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, the people-to-people relationship between the two countries is a priceless asset, playing an important bridging role in the relationship between the two countries.
