Deputy Chief of Office The Ho Chi Minh City Music Association announced that composer The Hien passed away on the evening of October 1st after battling a serious illness. Prior to that, late on September 30th, the composer's family noticed he was unwell and had low SpO2 (peripheral blood oxygen saturation) levels, so they took him to Military Hospital 175 (Ho Chi Minh City) for emergency treatment. Doctors diagnosed him with acute respiratory failure.
Previously, around August 2024, musician The Hien was diagnosed with lung cancer, his health deteriorated, and he had to receive treatment at Military Hospital 175. Following this health setback, the musician no longer appeared on music programs and stages. Over the past time, many colleagues and friends have visited his home to inquire about his health.
People's Artist Thế Hiển was born in 1955 in Nam Định province and was formerly a singer with the Bông Sen Dance and Music Troupe (Ho Chi Minh City). In 1982, he began his songwriting career, with his debut work, " When Balloons Fly," being well-received by the audience. Throughout his career, the musician's name has been associated with a series of songs such as "Her Hair Like a Rooster's Tail," "Nostalgia for a Beloved," "Wild Orchid Branch," "Singing About You," "No Matter Where I Go," "Waiting in the Rain," "Question Mark," "Nhong Nhong Nhong," "Purple Sunset," "Overcoming Myself ," etc.
The Hien was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization for having the most songs written about soldiers (2012). He was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 2012. This past March, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
