Originally a traditional agricultural cooperative, Thieu Do Agricultural Service Cooperative, Thieu Hoa Commune, mainly provided public service development services, such as agricultural extension, crop protection, irrigation, etc. for members. After converting to the 2012 Cooperative Law, the cooperative has improved its leadership and strongly innovated its operating model. In addition to traditional occupations, the unit has boldly added new occupations to its operations to meet the needs of its members.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Them, Director of Thieu Do Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: Currently, the Cooperative operates in a multi-industry direction with public services in the agricultural sector and some non-agricultural services, such as: environmental sanitation, electricity, internal credit... The Cooperative has closely coordinated with relevant departments, branches and units to send staff to participate in training, transfer of high-tech agricultural techniques; training on power grid safety, accounting skills... to maximize service activities.
It is known that Thieu Do Agricultural Service Cooperative has invested more than 4 billion VND to build 2 transformer stations with a capacity of 560 KVA/station and upgraded more than 35km of power lines to ensure safe and efficient electricity supply for more than 2,400 local customers. In addition, since 2021, the Cooperative has proactively learned and transferred technology to invest in developing 1,000m2 of greenhouses to produce safe vegetables and fruits according to the value chain. Thanks to that, the total revenue of the Cooperative reached 25 billion VND/year, sustainable production and business, building trust with member households.
As one of the agricultural production cooperatives applying high technology with high economic efficiency, in recent years, Mai An Tiem Agricultural Cooperative (Nga Son Commune) has become a familiar address for transferring technology and digital equipment in the agricultural sector. Since 2022, right after its establishment, the Cooperative has chosen high technology as its development direction. Therefore, along with investing in technology, the Cooperative has proactively researched and creatively applied it to production to minimize costs and increase economic efficiency. Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, director of the Cooperative, said: “After a period of purchasing technology and directly producing, the Cooperative has learned and innovated to come up with a production "formula" suitable for the conditions of each region. In addition, we also test digital equipment in our production area to transfer technology to households and agricultural production units in the area".
Currently, with 3.5 hectares of high-tech production, Mai An Tiem Agricultural Cooperative supplies the market with about 100 tons of products per year. In addition, the Cooperative also develops honey bee colonies, processes honey products; links and consumes vegetable and fruit products; transfers production technology to local people and neighboring areas. Thanks to the development of multi-value in agricultural production, the revenue of Mai An Tiem Agricultural Cooperative in 2024 will reach more than 6 billion VND/year.
According to statistics from the Provincial Cooperative Union, as of June 2025, Thanh Hoa province has 857 cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector. Although it is a cooperative sector with "weak" resources, more and more agricultural cooperatives are developing stably, performing well the function of "midwife" for the development of household economy, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the locality. Many cooperatives are dynamic and bold in investing in machinery, equipment, infrastructure... to become "multi-functional" cooperatives, developing in many industries and fields. Typical examples include: Dong Tien Agricultural Mechanization Service Cooperative (Dong Son Ward) which both develops high-tech agriculture and provides consulting on production and consumption of agricultural products; Quang Chinh Aquaculture Service Cooperative not only produces and trades aquatic breeds but also cultivates and consumes products... Thanks to the "multi-functional" cooperatives in the agricultural sector, it has contributed to increasing the revenue and profit of the collective economic sector, meeting the expectations of members and workers.
Mr. Le Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union, affirmed: “In order to have more and more agricultural cooperatives develop in a multi-industry direction, the Provincial Cooperative Union has organized many training courses to build a team of cooperative officials who are enthusiastic, dynamic, united, responsible, and put the common interest first. At the same time, in the coming time, we will continue to apply policies to support cooperatives to expand service types, transfer science and technology; be a bridge for agricultural enterprises to form joint ventures and link production according to product chains, so that cooperatives can increase in scale, fields and improve operational efficiency”.
