In an interview with a Vietnamese reporter on the evening of August 18, the two-time Champions League champion (1997-1998, 1999-2000) - Christian Karembeu, a former Real Madrid player, praised Yamal: "We are talking about a real talent, a star from La Masia. It was the legendary Johan Cruyff who laid the foundation and built the football philosophy at Barcelona, thanks to which the club was able to introduce outstanding names such as Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and now Yamal."

La Liga is considered to lack appeal due to the absence of Ronaldo and Messi, Karembeu affirmed that the tournament does not lack bright faces, not only at Barcelona or Real Madrid but also at Mallorca, Valencia or Sevilla. The problem is that clubs need to give young players the opportunity to develop, like Yamal is taking advantage of to become a star.

The former French player emphasized: "La Liga was greatly influenced by legends like Maradona, Ronaldo or Zidane, and later Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, the influence of the tournament has not diminished, always moving forward and will continue to produce new talents like Yamal or Jude Bellingham, while maintaining its position in the Champions League arena."

According to him, Yamal's inclusion in the preliminary list for the "Golden Ball 2025" is completely worthy.

"Yamal has scored goals and shown exceptional ability in big games. At 18, he has a bright future.

Dembele also deserves it, because he has conquered the Champions League and the European Super Cup. However, the final result will depend on the media vote" - Karembeu commented.

Christian Karembeu was born in 1970 in Lifou - an island in the Loyalty Islands, part of the overseas territory of New Caledonia (France).

He played 51 games for Real Madrid and won two Champions League titles (1998, 2000). He played 53 times for the French national team, scoring one goal. The former French midfielder won the 1998 World Cup.
