Professor Yutaka Tateda is a leading Japanese expert in the fields of marine environmental science , radioecology and marine ecology. His recent publications include the radioecological behavior of 137Cs in the southern coastal waters off Fukushima and the transport status of 137Cs in zooplankton and surface fish off Fukushima during 2018-2021.
Professor Tateda's working trip is part of the program to enhance international cooperation on food safety and traceability of seafood using nuclear techniques under the KINET, ERAN, and Sumitomo projects. The main objective of the working trip is to guide the analysis process of fish samples collected from cooperation projects to evaluate indicators related to heavy metal elements, stable isotopes, and radioactive isotope 137 Cs.
During his time working at the Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Yutaka Tateda was welcomed by Dr. Nguyen Huu Quyet and other professional staff of the Institute and discussed the research orientation of the unit. After that, the Professor had direct working sessions with research staff of the Isotope Hydrology Laboratory and the Center for Radioactivity Monitoring and Environmental Impact Assessment, focusing on implementing specialized contents:
Instructions on the process of processing fish samples by acid decomposition and precipitation treatment with AMP to measure radioactive isotope 137 Cs using gamma spectrometer. Instructions on simulation program, measuring samples on gamma spectrometer.
Discuss the application of stable isotope ratio analysis of Carbon/Nitrogen, determination of stable Cs isotope content, heavy metals in fish samples using isotope ratio mass spectrometer EA-IRMS and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer ICP-MS.
Coordinate data review, discuss research results processing plan and deploy Likert questionnaire for sociological research related to food safety awareness in Vietnam and Japan.
After a week of working at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, Professor Yutaka Tateda's working trip not only contributed to promoting the progress of cooperation projects between the two sides but also played an important role in improving research capacity and technology transfer for the staff of the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, while expanding academic connections between scientific institutions in Vietnam and Japan. This is an important step to promote the application of advanced nuclear techniques in the field of food safety to protect public health.
