Sacombank (Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank) has just reported on an old but quite sophisticated scam. Previously, scammers only targeted users of Android phones, but now iPhone (iOS) users are also on the list of targets. Fraudsters try to trick victims into installing unfamiliar applications, thereby gaining control of the device and stealing money from bank accounts through the Accessibility feature on Android phones and the Message Filtering feature on iPhones (iOS).

Sacombank warns customers that a common scam involves impersonating police officers, prosecutors, court officials, or bank employees, then providing "unique" links to trick customers into installing fake applications from government agencies. The application then requests permission to monitor the customer's mobile device. If the customer agrees, their phone will be remotely controlled, and the scammers will steal all information on the phone, including personal information, contacts, and bank account details. They then steal money from the customer's bank account and defraud the customer's relatives and friends.

The bank warns customers not to click on suspicious links.

To promptly prevent fraudulent activities, Sacombank advises customers to absolutely not follow any instructions from individuals impersonating police officers, not access strange links, not grant access or tracking permissions on their phones when installing unfamiliar applications, and not provide personal images such as citizen identification cards, national identity cards, passports, etc.

Recently, police in Ho Chi Minh City issued a warning about a scam that, while seemingly old, has resurfaced and become more sophisticated. Some people receive packages from delivery drivers, and upon opening them, find a scratch-off winning ticket. The ticket reveals a prize, and to claim the prize, they must access a link on the QR code and provide personal information. This is a new and very dangerous form of fraud. To avoid the leakage of personal information and the risk of being scammed, the police advise people to be vigilant, not access links on QR codes, and report any such packages to the nearest police station immediately. People should not accept unfamiliar packages that they did not order, and should not accept packages on behalf of others.
