The Japanese market continues to show positive signs for Vietnamese agricultural products, especially high-quality products that meet stringent standards for food safety and traceability.

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to Japan reached over 6.1 trillion VND last year. Chrysanthemums, bananas, and sweet potatoes continued to be the three main products, accounting for nearly 50% of the total export value. These three items brought in over 111 million USD. Of these, banana exports saw an impressive growth of over 33%.

According to the Customs Department, the total export value of fruits and vegetables to this market reached US$237.8 million, an increase of nearly 18%. The compound annual growth rate over the past five years has been over 60%. This result affirms the capacity of Vietnamese businesses in standardizing growing areas and meeting Japan's stringent food safety standards.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, Japan sets high standards for food safety, traceability, and packaging, but has stable purchasing power and is willing to pay high prices for products that meet these standards. Japanese consumers prioritize consistent quality, attractive appearance, and year-round supply. Chrysanthemums have the advantage of durability and continuous supply, while sweet potatoes suit the healthy eating trend thanks to their natural sweetness and versatility in processing.

The fact that these three items account for nearly half of the total export value shows that the Japanese market not only consumes tropical fruits but also maintains a strong demand for vegetables and fresh flowers. This presents an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to continue investing in high-standard production, increasing the value and diversifying products to maintain their market share in this market.
