Japan's cybersecurity forces are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to prevent crime.

Previously, private IT companies that supported police operations would often search social media and websites using keywords that might indicate criminal activity, especially involving guns and explosives.

However, the new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered system adopted by the NPA is capable of automatically identifying suspicious content from a plethora of online information, by analyzing words and their context.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the operations of Japan's cybersecurity force comes amid a recent spate of crimes involving guns and explosives, in which criminals were able to create weapons using information on the Internet.

There have also been several reports of robberies and scams by individuals recruited through online publications.

The NPA representative expressed hope that the AI technology support system will help prevent crimes more effectively and promptly in the near future. It should be noted that this artificial intelligence system will help monitor cyberspace more effectively as well as allow for timely identification of malicious information, increasing the level of security in the digital space.
