Japan's Immigration Services Agency announced that Japan plans to issue a new type of visa to facilitate longer-term residency for IT engineers and other foreign company employees in the country.
Accordingly, the new visa type has a maximum stay of 6 months for the aforementioned group of workers. This group consists of highly skilled workers who work in Japan remotely, meaning they work for a Japanese company while also participating in extended personal tourism activities in the country.
This work model is also known as digital nomadism. Self-employed individuals will only be eligible for a new visa if they conduct business to generate income overseas; they are permitted to bring family members to Japan if those family members also have private health insurance.
