Various measures to curb crime

Việt NamViệt Nam09/04/2024

According to the Steering Committee for Crime Prevention, Social Evils Control and the Development of the National Movement for Protecting National Security (Steering Committee 138) of the province, in the first quarter of 2024, many types of crimes in the province became more complex and increased compared to the same period in 2023.

Police raided a gambling den where cockfighting was taking place in Hamlet 6, Vinh Vien A Commune, Long My District.

Specifically, there were 87 cases of social order crimes, an increase of 14 cases, with an increase in the number of crime types such as murder, rape of persons under 16 years of age, fraud, resisting public officials, and robbery. 31 drug-related crimes were detected, an increase of 10 cases compared to the same period last year.

According to Colonel Nguyen Van Gia, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, one of the reasons is that crime prevention measures have not been decisively coordinated and directed by some members of the Provincial Steering Committee 138 and local Steering Committees 138.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Khai, Deputy Head of the Drug Crime Investigation Department of the Provincial Police, stated: "The situation of buying, selling, transporting, storing, and organizing the illegal use of drugs in the province continues to be complex, with the organization of illegal drug use in motels and karaoke bars becoming increasingly common, accounting for 42% of the total number of drug-related crimes; they operate quite discreetly, without fixed locations."

According to the police, the crime situation in the coming period will continue to be complex, as various types of crimes will continue to operate in a sophisticated manner; temporary conflicts, especially among young people, will always be a potential threat; while many localities have not been decisive in implementing preventive and combat measures.

Colonel Nguyen Van Gia stated that, in order to prevent various types of crime, the Provincial Steering Committee 138 will strengthen social prevention efforts in the coming period, implementing solutions to improve the effectiveness of managing drug addicts, illegal drug users, and people with mental illnesses or psychotic symptoms ("methamphetamine-induced psychosis"). They will advise Party committees and local authorities at all levels to resolve conflicts among the people definitively. They will shift from traditional manual methods to modern ones, promoting the application of information technology. At the same time, they will improve the efficiency of receiving and handling crime reports, denunciations, and requests for prosecution from the commune level.

“In particular, we will strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in security and order, especially the management of weapons, explosives, support tools, and business sectors subject to security and order conditions. We will focus on effectively utilizing software and applications based on the National Population Database and effectively implementing Government Decree No. 06. We will strengthen coordination and information exchange with units and localities to proactively prevent and deter crime from an early stage and effectively combat all types of crime,” Colonel Nguyen Van Gia emphasized.

In the first quarter, police and military forces at all levels coordinated 6,150 armed patrols, dispersing 1,175 groups of young people gathering late at night causing insecurity and disorder; detecting and handling 45 cases of illegal fishing using electric shock devices, and persuading people to surrender 25 electric shock devices.

The inter-agency cultural and social inspection team at the district level conducted 80 inspections, covering 285 establishments providing cultural services and businesses operating under conditional investment and business regulations related to security and order, and discovered 12 establishments in violation.

Mediation teams in the province received and mediated 56 cases involving 115 people, mainly concerning land disputes, property division, and conflicts between family members.
