TPO - Recently, many sidewalks in central Hanoi have deteriorated and peeled, causing difficulties for pedestrians and posing a potential risk of accidents.
On the sidewalks of streets such as Pham Van Dong, Tran Duy Hung (Cau Giay district), Kim Ma (Ba Dinh district), Khuat Duy Tien (Thanh Xuan district)... many cracks, breaks, and uneven surfaces have appeared. |

Nguyen Thi Minh Anh, a first-year student at the University of Commerce, said: "Every day I walk along Pham Van Dong Street to school, so I'm very familiar with the uneven condition of the sidewalks. If you're not careful, it's easy to fall into potholes and get injured." |
The paving stones on the sidewalk along Khuat Duy Tien Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) are also damaged, with broken and displaced stones exposing the underlying foundation. |
Large sections of the sidewalk are peeling off on Kim Mã Street (Ba Đình District). |
Sidewalks are designed exclusively for pedestrians; however, on Kim Ma Street, during rush hour, many motorbikes encroach onto the sidewalks, putting significant pressure on the stone structure. |
Often, pedestrians are forced to stop and give way to the stream of motorbikes. |

"I find the sidewalks on Tran Duy Hung Street cracked and damaged, which is very unsightly. In addition, cars parked along the street obstruct pedestrians," said Mr. Le Van Tuan (Cau Giay District). |
In fact, many sections have subsided, with the stones unevenly spaced, creating a rough surface. |
The same deterioration is also occurring on Trung Kinh Street (Cau Giay District). |
On the sidewalk of Trung Kinh Street, cars are parked in a long line. |
In addition, sidewalks are often occupied by vendors, narrowing the space available for pedestrians. |
The sidewalks on Khuat Duy Tien Street (Thanh Xuan District) are also in a state of serious disrepair, with many sections of paving stones crumbling. |
Recently, at its 14th session, the Thanh Xuan District People's Council approved the investment plan for the Nguyen Xien Street sidewalk renovation project with a total estimated investment of over 29 billion VND. |
Sidewalk renovation must be based on the specific condition and current state of each area in Hanoi. Speaking with a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper, a representative from the Department of Construction stated that the Department will regularly conduct both periodic and unannounced inspections of sidewalk renovation and beautification activities in districts and communes throughout the city. |
