People in the Hon Ro fishing port area (Nam Nha Trang ward, Khanh Hoa province) have long made a living from the sea. Men often spend many days at sea, on offshore fishing trips. When the boats return, they bring with them tattered nets entangled with reefs, corals or rotten fishing lines after long periods of use.

On shore, the women are busy mending nets – a seemingly easy job but one that requires sharp eyes, skillful hands and patience. They sit on the beach, on the shore, sewing each mesh of the net in preparation for the next trip out to sea.
The needlework of the mother and sister continues through many generations, like a net connecting the livelihood of Hon Ro fishing village. There are no schools for this profession, it is only passed down by sight and guidance by hand. After each trip at sea, fishermen's fishing nets are often torn due to getting caught on reefs, so the ship owners hire workers to mend the nets in preparation for the next trip. This is a fairly light job, not dependent on the weather, women can take advantage of their spare time to do it.Beautiful scenery at sea at Hon Ro.Most of Hon Ro people go to sea.
