Unsolved mysteries in the world

Twin Village

Vietnamnet newspaper quoted Northeast news site as saying that the remote village of Kodinhi in Malappuram district of Kerala state, India is known as the “twin village”. There are 220 pairs of twins in a total population of about 2,000 people.

Scientists believe that the chemical contamination of the water in the area is the cause of the strange phenomenon. In fact, water in Kodinhi village is also very scarce.

Many locals said the twin phenomenon has been going on for 60-70 years, and the cause is still unknown.

Unsolved mysteries in the world - 1

House without doors

In the village of Shani Shingnapur in Gujarat state, none of the buildings, shops or schools have doors. For privacy, each house has only a small wooden door and a curtain drawn across it.

Although there are no doors, the villagers are not worried about security, because there has never been any theft here.

They believe that all property in the house is protected by Lord Shani, a Hindu god known for his temper and integrity, so it will never be stolen. If anyone breaks the law, Lord Shani will punish them.

The Disappearance of a Roman Legion

The online magazine Tri Thuc Truc Tuyen cited the book Mysteries Forever Mysteries as saying that after a poor Roman army of General Crassus was defeated by the Persians, it is said that a small group of prisoners of war crossed the desert and eventually joined the army 17 years later. The historian Ban Gu who lived in China in the 1st century recorded a confrontation with a strange army that fought in a fish-scale formation, a characteristic of the Roman army.

An Oxford University historian has compared ancient documents and suggested that the remnants of the Roman army built a small town called Liqian (the Chinese spelling of “Roman”) near the Gobi Desert. Scientists are conducting DNA tests to prove this hypothesis and to explain some of the characteristics of the army’s descendants today: green eyes, blond hair and a penchant for bullfighting.

How did the city of Helike disappear?

The Greek writer Pausanias described the scene of a terrible earthquake that destroyed the city of Helike in one night, followed by a terrible tsunami that submerged all that remained of the once prosperous capital.

This capital of the Achaemenid confederation of city-states was the center of the cult of the sea god Poseidon. Apart from ancient Greek texts, there was no sign that the city ever existed until an archaeologist discovered a Helike coin bearing the head of Poseidon.

In 2001, two archaeologists located the city of Helike under a layer of mud and gravel. Excavations are underway and scientists hope to learn about the rise and fall of the city, considered by some to be the fabled Atlantis.

Overtoun bridge causes dogs to commit suicide

Overtoun Bridge, near the town of Dumbarton, seems to have the ability to “induce” dogs to commit suicide. Since the early 1960s, around 50 dogs have died and hundreds more have jumped from the bridge and survived, according to Atlas Obscura.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals sent a representative to investigate, but to no avail. There was no scientific evidence that dogs were capable of suicidal thoughts. It was as if something were enticing the dogs to jump off the bridge, often from the same spot, and always on a dry, sunny day.

Many theories have been put forward, including: that the bridge is haunted (a popular one after a local man threw his son off the bridge in 1994); that a weasel marks the area with a scent that dogs find almost irresistible; and that an acoustic anomaly exists on the bridge that only dogs can hear...

These are some of the unsolved mysteries in the world. There are many phenomena that make scientists scratch their heads but they still cannot find an explanation, or it is very difficult to give a reasonable answer.
