In the first season of the TNSV tournament, the Ho Chi Minh City regional qualifiers featured 20 teams from universities, colleges, and academies. The second season – the 2024 THACO Cup – boasts 29 participating teams. Currently, 26 teams have competed, leaving only 3 teams yet to play: Saigon Polytechnic College, People's Police University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology. These teams are part of a group of 3 and will compete from the second round.
The qualifying rounds of the TNSV THACO Cup 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City saw participating teams meticulously preparing for the tournament, with teams preparing for 2 to 3 months prior to its start. As a result, the matches were highly exciting and intense.
This also attracted a significant student audience. The opening match of the qualifying round saw nearly 4,000 spectators at the Ton Duc Thang University stadium. The remaining matches each attracted between 300 and 500 student supporters from various universities.
The fans of Ton Duc Thang University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (VNU-HCM) have been the most outstanding supporters so far, cheering enthusiastically and systematically with colorful cheering songs.

There were 4 matches with high scores of 5-0 or more, including 2 matches in the second round of Group 1. Specifically, Van Lang University defeated Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology with a score of 7-0 in Group 4, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance defeated Hung Vuong University with a score of 5-0 in Group 6, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport defeated Gia Dinh University with a score of 5-0, and the host team Ton Duc Thang University defeated Dai Viet Saigon College with a score of 6-0 (both in Group 1).
The matches at the 2nd TNSV Tournament - 2024 THACO Cup were all very exciting, even the teams that lost heavily still played offensively.
In addition, the first round saw two players score hat-tricks: Dinh Son Hung (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance) and Le Hoang Manh (Ton Duc Thang University). There were also two goals from direct free kicks, scored by Dinh Son Hung and Nguyen Hoai An of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport. A total of six penalties were awarded, with five successfully converted, while only one missed by Vietnamese-American player Hatsuoka Hiroki of RMIT University, resulting in a 0-0 draw against Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
Dinh Son Hung (from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance team) is the first player to score a hat-trick in the Ho Chi Minh City regional qualifiers.
Notably, the first round of the TNSV THACO Cup 2024 qualifying tournament in Ho Chi Minh City witnessed a record: player Vien Nguyen Dinh Quy scored the earliest goal in the 10th second, which was also the only goal, helping the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) team win against the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology team with a score of 1-0 in Group 2.

The first round of the 2024 THACO Cup qualifying tournament in Ho Chi Minh City also saw strong teams that participated in the first season's finals, such as Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, all making impressive performances and maintaining their form to remain top contenders in the second season.
