Amidst the modern world, where opportunities and challenges go hand in hand, the image of Hung Yen women remains one of strength and creativity. Beyond caring for their families, they actively engage in economic activities, unlocking the inherent potential of their homeland. With their skillful hands and unwavering determination, Hung Yen women are contributing daily to the powerful transformation of the rural areas.

The journey to wealth from the longan processing business.
In Tan Hung commune, a land closely associated with the renowned longan brand, there is a woman who has quietly dedicated many years to preserving and developing her family's traditional craft. That woman is Nguyen Thi My, who has elevated the longan processing industry beyond traditional methods, transforming it into a modern and effective business model in her homeland.
Her story begins in her family's 1.5-acre longan orchard. From a young age, Ms. My was captivated by the sweet aroma of longan fruit, the smoky scent of wood-fired drying ovens, and the sleepless nights peeling longan with her mother. Her love for the craft was ingrained in her, and as an adult, she continued the longan processing business diligently, from purchasing and initial processing to drying and bringing the product to market.
On average, she processes 40 to 60 tons of fresh longan annually, yielding 4 to 6 tons of dried longan. Recognizing the immense potential of this traditional craft, in 2022, Ms. My established the Hong Nam Agricultural Production, Trade, and Service Cooperative. As director, she and nine other members are determined to transform from small-scale, artisanal production to a more organized, modern, and large-scale collective economic model.
Ms. My shared: The cooperative has invested in building a nearly 200m² enclosed workshop, installing a modern machinery system for drying longan using electricity, a significant improvement to completely replace the traditional charcoal drying method. Fresh longan is carefully selected, washed by machine, peeled in a sterile environment, and then put into the electric drying system in a closed process. This method not only preserves the flavor and nutrients of dried longan but also ensures food safety and hygiene.
Besides maintaining traditional longan production, Ms. My has also created a product called "longan wrapped in lotus," combining Hung Yen's specialty with the refreshing scent of lotus. Currently, during longan season, her cooperative processes about 500 kg of fresh longan daily, yielding 100 kg of finished longan wrapped in lotus. The product is popular in the market and brings significant economic value.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa, from Dien Bien village, said: "Since working at Hong Nam Cooperative, my life has been stable. The work is meticulous but not too strenuous, and the environment is clean, bringing in an average daily income of nearly 300,000 VND."
With her startup project to build an agricultural processing facility linked to enhancing the value of Hung Yen's longan specialty, Ms. My won an encouragement award at the "Women's Creative Entrepreneurship and Green Transformation" competition in 2024 organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union.

The sweet fruits of a digital mindset.
Today, Hung Yen is also a place that strongly affirms the mark of women who dare to think, dare to act, and rise to become economic masters in their homeland. Among them, Ms. Tran Thi Xuan, from Tan Hoa village, Long Hung commune, stands out with her high-tech cantaloupe farming model, earning hundreds of millions of dong per harvest. No longer traditional melon beds, here every stage is automated, from irrigation and drainage to monitoring the growth process. Cantaloupes are grown in three gardens, each garden covering more than 3,000 m² , planted in rotation to ensure year-round production. Ms. Xuan said: "I became involved with cantaloupe farming 9 years ago, when I first saw a video demonstrating a high-tech greenhouse model on social media. Seeing the high efficiency, I researched further, learned from many sources, visited successful models in many places, and boldly invested."
Thanks to the application of drip irrigation and the use of melon varieties suitable for each season, she harvests about 9 tons of fruit per crop per year, selling it at 28,000 - 30,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, the profit per crop is estimated at 600 million VND. Not only does she produce melons, but Ms. Xuan also regularly shares her knowledge of melon cultivation with people in need, especially young entrepreneurs, contributing to income generation and changing the mindset of agricultural production for the local people, especially the younger generation.
The women's entrepreneurship movement in Hung Yen province has spread strongly in recent years, creating a clear change in rural economic life. Currently, the province has hundreds of cooperative models, companies, and production and business establishments owned by women, including 21 cooperative models and 31 models of clean, high-tech agricultural businesses. Ms. Vu Hong Luyen, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province and President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: "Today, women in Hung Yen are no longer confined to the fields or the kitchen. They are now owning cooperatives and businesses, reaching out to the international market with high-quality products."
We are very proud that more and more women are boldly innovating their thinking, applying science, technology, and digital technology to production. The Provincial Women's Union will continue to accompany and support women in connecting with markets, training management skills, and entrepreneurship so that they become even more confident.
