After the arrangement, there are 34 provinces and cities, including 6 centrally-run cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, Can Tho and 28 provinces.
Eleven provinces and cities retain their administrative boundaries: Hanoi, Hue, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Cao Bang .
52 provinces and cities are being reorganized into 23 new provincial-level administrative units named: Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, An Giang .
29 provinces and cities will no longer be named on the map: Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Bac Kan, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Dak Nong, Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang.
Based on the review, the Ministry of Education and Training has identified a number of subjects that are directly affected by changes in administrative boundaries, including: History and Geography (grades 4, 5, and 9); Geography (grade 12); History (grade 10); Economic and Legal Education (grade 10).
The Ministry of Education and Training has determined that the subject curriculum will be revised to serve as a basis for revising textbooks, such as updating requirements, knowledge content, place names, data, maps, charts and socio-economic information, etc.
The following are textbooks that will need to be revised when Vietnam has 34 provinces and cities:
1. History and Geography Grade 4

2. Geography and History Book Grade 5

3. Geography and History Book Grade 9

4. Geography Grade 12

5. History Grade 10

6. Education and Economics and Law Grade 10

In addition, the list of materials to be revised also includes local education documents compiled by the localities themselves.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units, on the basis of the framework program and documents issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, localities proactively select and develop local educational content, ensuring that it is consistent with the characteristics of the new administrative unit and the two-level local government organization model, promoting local initiative in organizing program implementation, while ensuring that educational content is promptly updated according to new administrative and social changes.
