Plane carrying 288 people encountered turbulence, dozens of people hospitalized

According to PBS , the Airbus A330-900, carrying 275 passengers and 13 crew members, encountered severe turbulence while en route from Salt Lake City (USA) to Amsterdam (Netherlands). The plane was forced to divert to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (USA) and landed at around 7:45 p.m. on July 30 (local time).

Firefighters and paramedics were on standby at the airport. Delta Air Lines said 25 people were taken to hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

One passenger reported that people who were not wearing seat belts on the plane were thrown up in the cabin.

“The food cart also flipped and fell, injuring a number of people. It happened multiple times, so it was really scary,” Leann Clement-Nash told ABC News.

This is one of several turbulence incidents reported this year. In June, an American Airlines flight from Miami to Raleigh-Durham International Airport also encountered turbulence, injuring five people and sending them to the hospital in North Carolina.

A United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Singapore encountered severe turbulence in March. The plane was flying over the Philippines with 174 passengers and 14 crew members on board. Five people were injured and the plane landed safely in Singapore.
