On May 31, the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense issued guidelines on organizing direct admission, priority admission and admission of excellent high school students to military universities and colleges at military academies and schools (collectively referred to as military schools) in 2023.
Heroes and emulation fighters are also eligible for direct admission to military schools.
Which candidates are admitted directly and given priority for admission?
They are: labor heroes, people's armed forces heroes, national emulation fighters who have graduated from high school.
Candidates who won first, second, or third prizes in national or international gifted student selection competitions or national or international science and technology competitions organized and sent to participate by the Ministry of Education and Training; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 3 years from the time of direct admission.
Candidates who are ethnic minorities with very few people, candidates from 20 poor border and island districts in the Southwest region, candidates who have had a permanent residence of 3 years or more, studied for 3 years and graduated from high school in poor districts (ethnic boarding high school students are calculated based on their permanent residence), will also be considered for direct admission if they meet the requirements on conduct and academic performance according to the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense.
Priority admission subjects include: candidates who are labor heroes, heroes of the people's armed forces, emulation fighters, and excellent students who are eligible for direct admission but do not use the right to direct admission, will be given priority admission to the majors according to their wishes.
Candidates who win consolation prizes in national excellent student competitions; candidates who win fourth prizes in national science and technology competitions will be given priority for admission according to the major appropriate to the exam subject or content of the competition topic in which they won the prize; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 3 years from the time of admission.
Candidates with priority admission may only use their priority admission rights in the year they graduate from high school.
Which candidates are eligible for HGS admission?
In addition, each military school will have regulations on priority admission for candidates who are excellent students. However, only those who graduate from high school in 2023, have excellent academic performance, good conduct in grades 10, 11 and semester 1 of grade 12 and have one of the following conditions, are eligible for consideration for excellent students:
Participate in the provincial-level high school gifted student exam and win first, second, or third prize in one of the subjects according to the admission combination of the recruiting school or a combination of 3 subjects according to the admission combination of the recruiting school (if the prize is won before graduating from high school, it will be retained until the end of the year of high school graduation; it will only be retained until the year the candidate finishes grade 12 and passes the high school graduation exam, the years after graduating from high school are no longer valid for admission).
Have a foreign language score of IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 55 or higher (certificate is still valid at the time of admission).
Have an SAT score of 1,068 or higher or an ACT average score of 18 or higher (certificate must be valid at the time of admission).
Obtain Russian language certificate TRKI-2 or higher (certificate is still valid at the time of admission), apply for admission to Russian language major at the Academy of Military Sciences.
Obtain HSK-4 Chinese language certificate or higher (certificate valid at the time of admission), apply for admission to Chinese language major at the Academy of Military Science.
All candidates who want to be admitted to military schools must pass the preliminary selection. Candidates who do not have a preliminary selection profile at the schools will not be eligible for direct admission, priority admission, or admission of excellent high school students to military universities and colleges in the military. Candidates must register for admission and complete the preliminary selection profile at the military admissions office at the district level where they are registered for permanent residence, before June 25.
