Poems that accompany youth

Throughout his revolutionary life, President Ho Chi Minh always cared deeply for and showed profound affection for generations of young people. He devoted much effort to organizing and guiding young people to the revolution. In 1951, immediately after the Second National Party Congress, from the Dinh Hoa safe zone, President Ho Chi Minh inspected the repair of the Thai Nguyen - Cao Bang road, visited the Youth Volunteer Force, transport units, and warehouses along National Highway 3. On the afternoon of March 30, 1951, while visiting the 312th Youth Volunteer Detachment, he recited a four-line poem: "Nothing is difficult / Only fear of a lack of perseverance / Digging mountains and filling seas / With determination, success will be achieved."

After he finished reading, everyone unanimously repeated it, the verses echoing through the mountains and forests. Those verses became a great source of encouragement, a rallying cry for young people to resolutely build and protect the Fatherland. He believed that young people must always strive to improve their spirit, determination, and cultivate strong character in order to realize their great aspirations, dreams, and ambitions.

The enthusiasm and energy of youth have always been a source of inspiration for artists and writers.

Inspired by the encouragement and determination of young people, To Huu produced many remarkable works. His early poems, written amidst the "fire and blood," shackles, and chains of imprisonment, had a profound influence on many segments of society, especially the youth.

In his poem "A Spring Song," To Huu shares: "If it were a bird, a leaf / Then the bird must sing, the leaf must be green / How can one borrow without repaying? / Life is about giving, not just receiving for oneself" (A Spring Song).

The poem, with its gentle tone and rich narrative, evokes many emotions and reflections in the reader. The poet Tố Hữu uses the two entities of a leaf and a bird's song to illustrate his concept. Nature created birds and bestowed upon them wonderful songs, meaning that birds must sing, and similarly, leaves must be green. And what must we, as human beings, do for society and our country? Especially the younger generation, what must we do to live up to our reputation as the pillars of the nation? It means always striving our best to repay the efforts and expectations of our families, schools, and society; being ready to dedicate and sacrifice ourselves to protecting and building a peaceful, prosperous, and strong homeland.

With a similar message of dedication to youth, author Thanh Hai conveys to readers with a heartfelt, whispering poetic voice through his work "A Little Spring." From emotions about spring, the author naturally shifts the poetic flow to express his reflections and thoughts on the meaning and value of each person's life: "I become a singing bird / I become a flower branch / I join the harmonious chorus / A poignant, low note."

To be a "singing bird" amidst countless carefree birdsongs, contributing joyful songs; to be "a flower branch" in a vibrant spring garden; to be "a low note" in a symphony of myriad melodies; to be "a small spring" contributing to the great spring of the nation and of shared life. Let each person create a spring, bringing all that is good and exquisite to contribute. And the message the poet wants to convey to present and future generations is: "Quietly offer to life / Whether at twenty years old / Or when your hair turns gray."

Throughout the poetic journey of encouraging youthful enthusiasm, authors from Tuyen Quang province have contributed many poems that bring positive energy and nurture youthful passion through works such as: "In Exam Season" by Tran Xuan Viet, "Where Are You?" by Pham Thuy Mo, "Cold Fire on the Lo River at Night" by Nguyen Binh, "Speaking to My Child" by Huyen Nhung, "Aspirations" by Bich Hau…

Young author Ta Thanh Ha, born in the 1990s, brings a passionate poetic voice, like a message to young people about striving and contributing to building their homeland. We always cherish the pride of living on the S-shaped land – a place where heroes and soldiers have selflessly protected the country. We are proud of our glorious history, the hardworking, resilient, and united Vietnamese people. All of this serves as a foundation for each young person to move forward: “Oh, youth, keep moving forward on the right path/Undeterred by difficulties because of the faith you have chosen/Love for homeland, love for country boundless/Is effort, is strength, is the foundation for the future” (Aspiration in Me).

Also reflecting on the narrative and conveying a message to the younger generation, veteran poet Nguyen Kim Thanh expresses his emotions through the poem: "Talent and Charm." It is the voice of someone who has lived through nearly a decade of life's ups and downs, sending a message that: The younger generation has a priceless time and offers many meaningful experiences, so dare to live, dare to strive, and dedicate yourself wholeheartedly. The poem is a song of hope, a message from a father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren, urging them to always strive to become talented and virtuous individuals, contributing to building a prosperous and thriving nation: "The bright red flag of our beloved school/Our country turns a new page in history/Bringing virtue and talent to brighten the nation/Vowing to live up to the name of our ancestors/Responsibility and faith hold the future."

Youth is the most beautiful period of a person's life, a priceless gift bestowed by life. Poems about youth are likened to a lifeblood that fuels enthusiasm and inspires generations of young people today and tomorrow to confidently contribute to their homeland and country.
