The joy of having a home from the "Trade Union Shelter"

By flexibly applying effective and innovative methods, the Hoa Binh Provincial Federation of Labor (LĐLĐ) has mobilized resources to build "Trade Union Shelters" for union members and workers in difficult circumstances. This provides support and assistance to union members and workers facing housing difficulties, enabling them to settle down, work with peace of mind, and increase their income. At the same time, it contributes to the "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" program for the poor in the province.

Leaders of the Provincial Labor Union, along with a delegation, visited and presented financial support for the construction of a "Labor Union Shelter" house to the family of Ms. Bui Thi Phuong, a member of the Labor Union of Van Son commune, Lac Son district.

Looking at the "Trade Union Shelter" house in its final stages of completion, Ms. Bui Thi Phuong, a member of the Trade Union of Van Son commune, Lac Son district, could not hide her joy. From now on, her whole family can live in a sturdy house, no longer worrying about heavy rain and strong winds. The new house has an area of 70 square meters, with a total cost of 230 million VND. Of that, the Provincial Labor Federation contributed 60 million VND, the Van Son commune Trade Union contributed 12 million VND, and the rest was borrowed from relatives and friends. Ms. Phuong happily shared: "Unlike other children my age, my son suffers from mental illness and developmental delays. Our family's economic situation is difficult, with low income. Previously, the whole family lived in a temporary house of only 18 square meters. Thanks to the care and encouragement of the trade union organization, my family has had the financial support and motivation to build a new house. My family will try harder to improve our quality of life and increase our income.”

In response to the "Trade Union Shelter" housing program launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Provincial Confederation of Labor directed all levels of trade unions in the province to strengthen propaganda efforts, creating widespread awareness of the program's purpose and significance. They mobilized workers, civil servants, and laborers to contribute to a fund to support the construction of "Trade Union Shelters" for union members in particularly difficult circumstances. They also guided grassroots trade unions to assess and review the housing situation, living conditions, and income of union members to develop support plans... From there, they developed detailed plans and reported to higher levels to allocate resources promptly, ensuring that the "Trade Union Shelter" housing is built for the right people and the right beneficiaries.

The implementation of the "Trade Union Shelter" housing program has been carried out synchronously and effectively by trade unions at all levels in the province, receiving the consensus and support of local Party committees, authorities, businesses, and philanthropists. Particularly noteworthy is the enthusiastic response from a large number of cadres, union members, and workers. According to statistics from 2024, the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions supported the construction and repair of 9 "Trade Union Shelter" houses with a total budget of 450 million VND. In addition, nearly 300 million VND from the National Employment Fund was allocated to 6 households under the district and city labor federations as loans for economic development.

In the first quarter of 2025, social welfare activities were given priority. The Provincial Labor Union supported the construction of 4 "Trade Union Shelters" for 4 disadvantaged families with a total amount of 200 million VND. By the end of 2025, the Provincial Labor Union aims to complete the goal of building over 10 "Trade Union Shelters" with a support level of 60 million VND/house for new construction and 30 million VND/house for repairs.

Comrade Nguyen Duc Thuan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial Labor Union, affirmed: The "Trade Union Shelter" housing support program over the years has contributed to building trust within the Trade Union organization in realizing the housing dreams of union members and workers facing housing difficulties. In the coming time, the Labor Union will continue to strengthen the work of reviewing and compiling statistics on the number of temporary and dilapidated houses of union members and workers. From there, a specific plan will be developed, mobilizing resources from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to build "Trade Union Shelter" houses. This will create conditions to help union members and workers live in sturdy houses. This demonstrates the affection and responsibility of the Trade Union organization towards workers and employees, creating motivation to successfully complete tasks at agencies, units, and enterprises.
