For the crime of "illegally possessing narcotics," Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen (residing in Ho Chi Minh City) received a sentence of 7 years and 6 months in prison. At the age of 26, the 4 years and 8 months in prison are the period that Huyen feels most remorseful about, as she left behind her innocent child, her youth was buried behind the prison gates, and she had to pay the price for her mistakes.
During those long months behind bars, under the dedicated guidance and education of the prison wardens and correctional officers, Huyen realized her mistakes and resolved to reform herself. Huyen's efforts and achievements are now flourishing, as she has returned to her family, her husband and children, during the amnesty granted on National Day, September 2nd.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Tran Van Dung stated that during the amnesty review process, Dak Trung Prison coordinated with relevant units to ensure strict adherence to regulations, transparency, fairness, accuracy, and compliance with the law.
To prepare inmates for their return to society, the unit has provided counseling, guidance, and vocational training with the hope that each inmate, upon returning to life, can choose a suitable job to earn a living, avoid the temptations of everyday life, and strive to become a good citizen, useful to their family and society.
The prisoners processed the paperwork and received their pardons. |
The amnesty is only the beginning of the path to rehabilitation. Many challenges and difficulties lie ahead for the inmates. The comrade hopes that those who have made mistakes will continue to receive the support and assistance of their relatives, families, and society so that they can reintegrate, overcome feelings of shame and inferiority, and gradually stabilize their lives.
For those prisoners still serving their sentences, they will strive to comply strictly with the law and prison regulations; actively study and work towards rehabilitation so that they may soon meet the conditions to receive clemency from the Party and the State.
Dak Trung prison arranged transportation to take those granted amnesty to the interprovincial bus station so they could return to their families. |
As the vehicles slowly rolled away from the camp gates, the mistakes of yesterday were gradually being left behind, and a better future would unfold as they returned home, reunited with their families and loved ones, and reintegrated into community life.
