Trying for the first time

VHO - At the 33rd SEA Games, Teqball was included in the competition program for the first time. To prepare for this congress, Teqball Vietnam, with a force mostly consisting of athletes and coaches from Ho Chi Minh City, has been actively preparing with training programs, professional training courses and organized tournaments to accumulate and create a perfect springboard for the congress in Thailand.

Teqball athletes will try their best to compete for the national flag.

Teqball is a new sport introduced to Vietnam, a combination of soccer, sepak takraw and table tennis, played on a characteristic curved table surface.

Ho Chi Minh City is the locality that develops Teqball, attracting a large number of participants. This sport creates great attraction thanks to beautiful techniques, high entertainment value, intense confrontations...

Over the past year, there have been tournaments and professional training courses equipped with training equipment, contributing to the widespread development of Teqball in Ho Chi Minh City. This shows the efforts of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Department in developing Teqball.

With a long-term orientation and a systematic professional support system, Teqball Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general are gradually creating a solid foundation to reach out to the region and the world. That is also the basis for Teqball Vietnam to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.

In mid-2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Department conducted a survey and study trip to Hungary and Spain, where the Teqball movement is the most developed in the world .

Then, Ho Chi Minh City successfully organized the Teqball World Championship at the end of 2024, attracting 221 athletes from 95 countries and territories to participate, with a total of 301 matches.

Although participating for the first time, the Vietnamese Teqball team participated in all competitions, including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Although they could not go far, Vietnamese athletes had a useful tournament. Competing and competing with the world's top opponents helped them gain more experience and accumulate knowledge to develop their expertise in the future.

At the end of June this year, the first Teqball Championship in Ho Chi Minh City was held, attracting the participation of more than 100 athletes from 12 units.

This tournament is also the basis for Teqball TP.HCM to select forces, establish a national team of 10 athletes (5 men and 5 women) and 3 coaches to go to Hungary for training.

Afterwards, a training program to improve the professional skills of athletes and coaches of the Teqball team in Ho Chi Minh City (the core of the National Team) took place in Ho Chi Minh City with the instruction of experts from the World Teqball Federation. This is an in-depth activity with contents including technical and tactical training for athletes and capacity building for the Vietnamese coaching team.

According to Coach Le Thanh Tung of the Vietnamese Teqball team, before the 33rd SEA Games, the coaching staff will screen and select 10 athletes for the official squad to attend the Games. Among them, the athletes are members who participated in the 2024 World Teqball Championship , as well as selected from the recent 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Teqball Championship.

Most of the team's athletes come from sepak takraw, shuttlecock, and soccer, so they already have a good foundation and can adapt to Teqball very quickly. Over the past time, the team has been actively practicing to prepare and will strive to compete in their first SEA Games.

In this congress, Teqball will compete in the following events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

It is very difficult for countries in the region to compete for gold medals with Thailand because they are the country with the most developed Teqball in the world (at the 2024 World Championship, Thailand won the championship in 4/5 events including: Women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles). Therefore, the goal of Vietnam Teqball is to compete with all their might and strive to compete for medals.

SEA Games 33 will not only be a simple tournament, but also an important milestone marking the official presence of Vietnamese Tepball in the regional arena. If successful, this will be the foundation for this sport to develop widely in the country, attracting more young athletes and receiving more systematic investment.

With careful preparation, determination and the support of fans, Tepball Vietnam can absolutely dream of a memorable journey at SEA Games 33.

Regardless of the final result, participating and competing with all your might is a big step forward, proving the aspiration of Vietnamese sports to rise in a new but promising sport .
