On the afternoon of October 11th, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Nihon Hidankyo Foundation (Japan) for its efforts towards a world without nuclear weapons.
Jorgen Watne Frydnes, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, emphasized that Nihon Hidankyo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts toward a world without nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness accounts that nuclear weapons should never be used again.
The Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony will take place at Oslo City Hall (Norway) on December 10th, coinciding with the awarding of the Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Economics in Sweden.
The recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize will receive a medal, a certificate, and a prize worth more than $1 million.
