That is the fact that the Vietnamese men's and women's badminton teams are not qualified to participate in the 2014 World Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships (Thomas & Uber Cup) which are about to start in India.

Ms. Huynh Ngoc Lien, who has led the Vietnamese badminton team to participate in the Thomas & Uber Cup many times, said that since this year, the World Badminton Federation (BWF) has issued new regulations for the tournament.

Accordingly, there will be no regional qualifying rounds but 16 men's and 16 women's teams will be selected to qualify for the finals. The important criteria for selection is the total ranking of the top players of the countries.

In the men's tournament, at the time of selection (March 2014), although Vietnam had Nguyen Tien Minh (ranked 8th in the world), the rankings of the remaining players were too low: Cao Cuong (ranked 255 in the world), the pair Bao Duc/Hoang Nam (ranked 105), the pair Hong Nam/Tuan Duc (ranked 331).

Therefore, the men's team did not officially qualify for the tournament but was in the second reserve round after the US team, while in the Southeast Asian region there were 4 teams qualified to participate: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

In the women's tournament, the Vietnamese team is not even in the waiting round because no player is in the world top 100.

The coalition was banned from the national mixed team badminton tournament - Thanh Cong Cup which opened today, May 10 in Bac Giang . General Secretary of the Vietnam Badminton Federation Le Thanh Sang said that the coalition did not properly assess the strength of the units and this year the teams were forced to "be self-reliant".
