Since February every year, the weather in the North enters a period of prolonged drizzle, causing high humidity in the air. In addition, large urban areas such as Hanoi are constantly in the "red alert" group when the air pollution index is often among the highest in Southeast Asia. In that context, many people rush to buy dehumidifiers and multi-function air purifiers with the desire to clean and dry their home space.
The trend of buying smart home appliances at all times
When it comes to anti-humidity, clothes dryers and recently dehumidifiers are often the first solutions that people think of. Currently, many stores say they have run out of dehumidifiers with small tank capacities and capacities suitable for the area of common rooms or apartments, with only a few models remaining with capacities of up to 60 liters and high capacities, usually for large spaces.
Air purifiers are gradually becoming essential when air pollution is an unsolvable problem.
However, according to many stores, in addition to this device, air purifiers, deodorizers and disinfectants are also sought after. According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tan, Director of Giga retail system, dehumidifiers are still the "star" in the first business period of 2025, but related air cleaning devices, especially those with pet hair suction features, enhanced deodorizing and disinfecting capabilities, are also growing strongly. This demand is not only present in the North - where the weather is heavily humid, but also in many cities in the South when the rainy season comes.
"Compared to the same period last year, dehumidifier sales increased 4 times. Last weekend, when the North had drizzle and increased humidity, sales increased 10 times. The group of vacuum cleaners and air purifiers with indoor pet hair catching mode also exceeded expectations," Mr. Tan shared on the sidelines of the event to experience the new generation of air purifiers LG PuriCare Aero Booster Pet, PuriCare Aero Hit and other LG product ecosystems that took place in Hanoi recently.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Nguyen Ha, Marketing Director of Hop Long E-commerce, said that from September 2024 to January 2025, the company sold more than 25,000 dehumidifiers, air purifiers and odor absorbers - a number much higher than previous years. "There is no longer a situation where customers only focus on buying 'anti-humidity' products after Tet, customers have started using smart devices all year round to optimize their living space," Ms. Ha commented.
Many product groups enter the market
One of the noticeable features of smart home appliances in recent years to attract users is the ability to connect and control via phone applications. This gives family members the initiative to monitor information about the living environment (room space), and can also adjust and control operations accordingly. In addition, these products are also truly "smarter" thanks to the research and application of new technology trends to be able to dry and clean the environment more effectively than the previous generation.
A family in Hanoi uses a dehumidifier to dry clothes in the humid weather in early 2025.
Smart home appliances are available in all segments, meeting the needs of users in personal rooms, common rooms, and even for families, shops, offices... Most dehumidifiers and air purifiers are equipped with antibacterial HEPA filters, for higher filtration efficiency. Some models add the ability to suck and clean pet hair flying in the air or under the floor, providing the ability to remove odors, vacuum fine dust and hair at the same time.
However, the market is still showing signs of not being able to meet the supply. Some retailers said that although they had anticipated consumer demand based on experience from previous years, they are still lacking goods, and even their partners do not have enough to supply. "The goods ran out in early February, and at the earliest, a new batch will arrive by the end of the month," a consultant from a business system revealed.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the North will continue to suffer from humidity from late February to April, which may last for days at a time. With the limited supply of many devices, coupled with high demand, many items are showing signs of increasing in price. However, users still have to order in advance because it is difficult to find the right model to get right away at this time.
