Carefully inspecting each pomelo in the basket, Mr. Phan Thanh Doan in Dao Thanh ward uses netting to wrap around them, both to protect them from the sun and to prevent the peel from getting scratched.

When ripe, each fruit weighs 6-8 kg, so Mr. Doan has to use ropes to tie and support the branches to prevent them from breaking.
Mr. Doan's orchard yielded over 200 large mangoes this year, all of which have been pre-ordered by traders at prices ranging from 500,000 to 700,000 VND per fruit. This year, his family earned approximately 140 million VND for Tet (Lunar New Year).
When ripe, the pomelo in the basket has a bright yellow color and red flesh, symbolizing good fortune. Therefore, despite its high price, this type of pomelo is still popular as a gift or for display during Tet (Lunar New Year).
After the previous harvest, traders prepare contracts to guarantee the purchase of the following year's crop. Many curious locals and traders, after seeing the information online, came to the orchards to inquire about buying pomelos at high prices, but still couldn't find any.
Mr. Le Thanh Tuan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dao Thanh Ward, said: "Recognizing the effectiveness of growing pomelo in the shape of a basket, compared to other common pomelo varieties, especially during Tet (Lunar New Year), which brings a stable income to the people, the local authorities have also guided and encouraged people to replicate this model, contributing to increasing the income of farming households."
The pomelo tree doesn't require much soil and can be interplanted in gardens with other trees. After 3 years of planting, the tree begins to bear fruit.
Each large, beautiful pomelo is the result of the farmers' meticulous care, embodying their faith and hope for another bountiful harvest in the coming season, so that the people can celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) in warmth, prosperity, and peace.
