Farmers in Hai Phong are harvesting rice at night to minimize the effects of the heat and speed up the production process.

In recent days, Hai Phong has experienced intense heat, at times exceptionally severe with temperatures reaching 35-40°C, right during the peak of the spring rice harvest.

Ahead of forecasts of thunderstorms after May 29th, many farmers are taking advantage of nighttime harvesting to avoid the heat and speed up the process, minimizing the impact on rice yields.

According to the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department (Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment), as of May 27th, the entire city had harvested 23,000 hectares of spring rice, accounting for 30% of the planted area.

Localities with high areas of harvested rice include An Lao, Tien Minh, Phu Thai, Thanh Mien, Lai Khe, Binh Giang, etc. The estimated yield of spring rice is 68-70 quintals/hectare. The rental price for harvesting machines is 140,000-150,000 VND/sao (1 sao = 360 square meters), 15-20% higher than the same period last year due to increased fuel prices.

According to the crop production plan, farmers will begin sowing early-season rice seedlings from June 15th onwards. Therefore, it is necessary to speed up the harvesting of the spring rice crop and prepare the land for the summer crop production.
