Farmers are rushing to the fields to plant rice for the spring crop.
To prepare for the spring planting season, from the 2nd and 3rd days of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 (February 18th and 19th), farmers in Giai Le village (Tien Hoa commune, Hung Yen province) rushed to the fields to begin the spring planting.

Locals say that rice cultivation nowadays is mainly for consumption and yields almost no profit.
This year, Giai Le village has purchased a rice transplanter to serve villagers who need to rent one. If you wish to rent one, you need to register in advance so the machine owner can prepare the seedlings according to your requirements.
The current rental price for a rice transplanter is 320,000 VND per Northern Vietnamese acre, which is 180,000 VND cheaper than hiring a manual laborer (including lunch and guaranteed seedlings).
However, many farmers are still hesitant to rent rice transplanters, mainly because of the unclear effectiveness and the fact that after the transplanter finishes, they still have to replant, meaning they have to add more rice to areas like corners where the machine couldn't reach.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Hoan's family is actively tending to their rice seedlings, preparing for the spring planting season. He said that his family is planting 3 acres, and they need to hire about 20 laborers at a cost of 10 million VND to complete the planting on time. Besides hiring laborers, the cost of rice seeds is also 3 million VND, along with many other tasks that need to be done either by hiring or doing themselves, making it very laborious and expensive. There's a bustling atmosphere in the fields. The consolidation of land plots over the years has also helped increase mechanization and make farming more convenient. Due to industrial development, for many years now, young people have mainly worked in factories and rarely participated in farming; this work is mainly done by older people. Between the already planted rice fields, farmers are leveling the land manually to prepare for transplanting rice. A peaceful scene in the rice fields as evening falls.
