At approximately 7:50 AM on May 28th (Vietnam time), AFP reported: "US media, citing unnamed officials, said the US military shot down four drones launched from Iran that attacked a control center in the port city of Bandar Abbas."
According to CNN and the New York Times , the attack in Bandar Abbas prevented Iran from launching its fifth drone.
"U.S. forces attacked an Iranian ground control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas, where preparations were underway to launch a fifth drone. U.S. officials said these actions were measured, purely defensive, and maintained the ceasefire," CNN reported.
Earlier, Iranian media reported that three explosions were heard east of the port city of Bandar Abbas at around 1:30 a.m. local time on May 28.
They reported that air defense systems were activated within minutes and officials are verifying the source of the explosions.
The cause of the attack is unclear. Iranian media reported that both sides exchanged fire.
According to information cited by Iran's Tasnim news agency from a military source, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces fired on a US oil tanker "attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz by switching off its radar system." The source said that US forces then retaliated with an attack on open land around the city of Bandar Abbas.
The Tasnim news agency explained that "the explosion was related to this incident" and "there were no casualties or property damage."

The latest move comes after what the US military described as "self-defense" attacks on Iranian missile sites and mine-laying vessels on the night of May 25-26.
On May 28, US President Donald Trump said he was still not satisfied with Iran's proposals to reach an agreement, after Iranian state television published details it claimed were a draft agreement between the two sides, according to AFP.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting at the White House, President Trump said he was in no hurry to reach an agreement to end the war in the Middle East, despite having said over the weekend that an agreement was close.
"Iran is very determined; they want to reach an agreement. So far, they haven't done that. We're not satisfied yet, but we will be," said Trump.
"Either that, or we'll have to finish the job," the White House chief added, alluding to the possibility of resuming military operations that the US and Israel launched on February 28 and paused in April.
Mr. Trump further stated that Iran is "negotiating with almost no other options exhausted."
Earlier that day, Iranian state television reported that the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Washington included commitments to lift the naval blockade against Iran, restore traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and withdraw US forces from the Gulf.
However, the White House called the information "completely fabricated".
World oil prices are rising.
According to AFP, world oil prices rose again on May 28 following the latest US airstrikes on Iran, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Brent crude oil prices rose nearly 2% to $96.13 per barrel, while US WTI crude oil increased 1.75% to $90.23 per barrel.
