The most notable highlight of this year's season is the appearance of Meritorious Artist Vu Luan in the play "I'll Marry You in January 2" (written by Lam Tuyen - directed by People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau). Known to audiences as the handsome leading man of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera), this marks Vu Luan's first time on the stage as a spoken drama actor. Sharing his thoughts on this foray into spoken drama, Vu Luan said he wanted to contribute to the return of the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre. Despite it being a spoken drama, the director skillfully utilized his singing and dancing talents, giving the role both psychological depth and a strong personal touch. The collaboration between Vu Luan and veteran spoken drama artists such as Meritorious Artist Viet Ha, Minh Du, Tuyet Mai, Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Doan Thanh Phuong… created an interesting synergy.

" I'll Marry You in the New Year 2 " is a bright and distinctly Southern Vietnamese film, revolving around poignant love stories, along with charming conflicts and misunderstandings between two old men who are often at odds. Friendship, love, and family values are cleverly interwoven through humorous and sometimes tearful situations, aiming to resolve misunderstandings and lead to a happy ending in the spring.

In a somber and profound tone is the play "Ma Dao Khai Xuan" (The Horse Arrives at the Beginning of Spring) , a work inspired by the story "Man and Horse, Horse and Man" by writer Nguyen Cong Hoan. Written by Hoang Man and directed by Do Thuy, the play, originally Do Thuy's graduation project, has been professionally upgraded with the participation of Quoc Thinh, Do Thuy, Doan Thanh Phuong, Hong Pham, Nguyen Thanh Tuan, and others. The story of the rickshaw driver and the flower girl on New Year's Eve is a meeting of people sharing the same hardships, seeking warmth on this eve of the New Year, leaving viewers heartbroken. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Phuong, Deputy Director of the Theater, said: "Performing a sad story on New Year's Eve is also intentional on the part of the theater, because people need to be moved by compassion and empathize with the lives of those around them." However, the play actually has many witty details from actor Quoc Thinh. He is a skilled comedian, seamlessly blending tragedy and comedy, making viewers laugh, but in a way that brings tears to their eyes.

The choice of adapting a classic literary work like "Ma Dao Khai Xuan" (Horse Galloping to the New Year) is entirely in line with the leadership's new strategic direction. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Phuong affirmed that the unit will combine entertainment and literary value, focusing on adapting literary works to serve students and diversifying the cast. In the cozy space of approximately 200 seats at the Cong Nhan Theater, this heartfelt return promises to offer audiences a quality artistic experience.
The play "I'll Marry You in the New Year 2" will be performed on the 2nd and 4th days of the Lunar New Year.
The "Ma Dao Khai Xuan" performance will take place on the 1st and 3rd days of Tet (Lunar New Year), at 7 PM.
